I have four girl guineas and I have notice they tend to loose a bit of weight in the winter when they have no access to grass. They have hay 24/7 but it’s not the greenest or anything (dust free though) and unfortunately due to where I live hay is difficult to come by and the P&P for online hay is ridiculous! So I was going to supplement them in the winter with readigrass. It would in no way replace the hay as they hay gives them lots of fibre and fills their ever hungry bellies😂 but I’m thinking of a double small double handful a day between the four of them.

I was hoping for a bit of advice on wether the readigrass is too rich for them or if the things I’ve read on other websites are a load of lies🤔😄😄

Also please say if you use readigrass (or used to) as I’m curious to see what other people think of it and why they might use it. Thank you!

I don't feed readigrass any more, or orchard grass hay. It seemed to lead to bladder problems when I did.

Its fine as a treat hay because of how rich it is, why its different to fresh grass i do not know. No one has ever had the answer.

My piggies have a handful of Readigrass each day sprinkled on their hay. So far it doesn't appear to have caused any health issues.

I give mine readigrass as an occasional treat.
I’ve never had any problems and the piggies love it.
By occasional I mean no more than once a week

I give mine redigrass as a treat and have done for years and never had any issues. I suppose it's down to the individual guinea what could cause it issues.

I would like to know why readigrass isnt good to feed everyday but grass is. Its just dried grass. I have the feeling myths are flying around. It wouldnt be the first time. Correct me if I'm wrong please ☺

I believe it might be because of the calcium content. Most likely because it is incredibly rich grass where as the grass that is in your garden is probably not as high in nutrients. I am not sure wether I would want to risk it, but there is an amazing website that I’ve found that does Timothy hay pretty cheap with free (or little) P&P so I can’t wait to order some!

It depends on the soil the grass has grown in i thought

I was told that it was high in calcium and sugars but I think the same with human diets variety is best not too much of any one thing.

Sorry to but into the convo 😂 But if you're talking about timothyhay.co.uk I can highly recommend their hay and will now never by hay elsewhere. I've tried so many in the past, and this is the only one that my piggies haven't gone off eating. It's green, fresh and soft so limited hay pokes etc. I love it and my piggies do too! 😂

Readi grass has a calcium content of 0.55 which is lower than most pellets.i feed a small handfull to all my piggies daily.i have not had any issues with bladder problems.it is recommended that you only feed as a treat.
I feed the oat version. Blue bag and actually has a rabbit and guinea pig on the bag. But i feed readigrass aswell

Readigrass is fine as an occasional treat. Mine love a handful or 2 of it each week.
