My mum and I extended the cage last night in preparation for the arrival of "Baggy" and one of her potential suitors.

The dimensions of the cage haven't actually changed much at all, we've essentially just "filled in" the rest of the upper floor. Everyone has changed cages apart from the big group.

The Full Cage - 15 Jan 2010
Five separate cages, for 14 pigs!

Elijah and Errol now live in the bottom left 2x5.

Franklyn and Meghan now live in the middle 2x5.

Delilah and Sophia now live in the top right 2x4. I decided to put them in a 2x4 instead of 2x5 as they're not active guineas at all, and I prefer them on a top level so I can pick my special Delilah up easily.

Dexter and the girls' cage is the same aside from the support grids and huge "cave". They all adore that space.

And finally, the cage ready for "Baggy" and Friend.

It is easier to clean this out than it looks, there was very little change to the day to day routine this morning in terms of hoovering poops and the like. Although putting the fleece into Dex & Girls' cage will take some getting used to!

Oooh, E&E have moved! Lucky boys. It looks great Laura, aren't you and your mum clever. Hope all the pigs are ok with their moves!

Love the jigsaw fleece

Looks fantastic hun and well sorted can't wait to see Baggy and her new compatriate in their quarters.

Thank you Sophie, Meg, Claire and Sarah. :)

Errol couldn't care less about the move, he's so laid back bless him. Elijah was a bit confused but he's settled fine. The big strip of correx on the divider between the boys and their neighbours is just to make sure the move and living right next to Frank and Meg didn't upset them. Elijah is a terrible flirt so if the bars were uncovered, he would spend his entire time rumbling all along the divider. rolleyes They do have a little 6" window to say hello though.

The jigsaw fleece is one of my favourites too Sophie. I bought another 1m of the flowery fleece and 1m of the blue sheep fleece; the sheep one has arrived today but not the flowery one, so it's not matching at the moment. I like all the cages to have matching fleece. :))

What a great set-up! I'd been wondering! ;)
My tribe love their "cave" bits as well - especially any nooks and crannies for having a safe and snug nap in!

I am sure that Baggy will have the best of care and can't wait to see which boy has been chosen as "Mr. Right" for the picky lady! Any new names for Baggy yet, or will all be revealed tomorrow?

PS: I can't wait to see in it all in reality!

omg,Laura, that set up is lush! I'm in awe! Your piggies are so lucky, I want to live in one of those cages! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thats brilliant! What a lovely set up :) You've certainly got your work cut out though - I don't know how you find the time! I guess its about organisation, something I severely lack!
I love that fleece too, can I ask where you got it? I'm on the look out for new fleece as we've just done up our lounge and the piggies need to match now! :))
Really looking forward to pictures of Baggy & friend settling in, they'll love their new home x

Your piggies definitely land on their paws when they move in with you! The set up look great! You must have a very understanding family to allow you all that room! Can't wait to see new pics of baggy and bf! :))

My dad still doesn't know I'm getting two more piggies....

With all my pigs he hasn't been informed of any new arrivals until I've already adopted them/arranged to adopt them! He will be in for a surprise when he finally realises we're going up to 14!

I think my parents have been so understanding because of how much the pigs have helped me. I only started to recover from the severe agoraphobia the first time around when I got Charlie six years ago. They've recognised what a difference it made to me, having these piggies as my responsibility, and they obviously know I'm serious about working with guineas and they know that I've got a good grounding in guineas. My mu,'s very creative and is very inspired by the C&C designs, so she is more than happy to play with the cages. She knows how the space is important to them - especially after we started out six years ago with two pigs in a 2x1 sized hutch! (Interesting fact - you could fit 28 of those size hutches in the current setup!)

It was actually my mum who voiced that we should get Baggy and a friend for her. I was thinking it, and it was in my heart and head, and when I told Mum about these piggies I'd been sponsoring and how Baggy was alone after Beefy sadly passed away, she said "Why don't you see if you can adopt her and we can find a neutered male"...we checked if we could extend the cage and I rang Sophie straight away. :))

Cath - I buy all my fleece off eBay. It's sold 60" wide (4 grids) by the metre, so it's a really good way to buy fleece, especially for the larger cages. I pay around £35 per full set to get enough fleece to fit in each cage (with a good couple of inches extra on each edge, just in case it shrinks), so it's not cheap for so much fleece but it lasts solidly for months and years.

Cleaning isn't too tough. I do need to get used to fitting fleece in the biggest cage with Dex and the Girls (with the huge 2x3 "cave") (it is awkward because of the support grids). But once I'm in a routine, it's easy enough. The old setup took one hour to completely clean, I estimate this will only take 10 minutes more. The top cages take only 5-10 minutes each, it's really quick.

It is all about organisation and routine though! I definitely can't afford to not be organised and set on a routine with five separate groups of pigs. :))

Thank you for your lovely lovely comments everyone. I'm so pleased you all like it!

Wiebke, I've not actually thought of any names yet! I do have a second name for her although I will keep quiet on the name until I've decided for sure. It is a very clever play on words my Mum discovered. I wanted to honour Beefy, as Baggy loved him so much.

Still no word from Walsall about the potential boys, I left a message yesterday but will try ringing tomorrow again.

It takes me an hour to clean two hutches and I've only got five pigs rolleyesrolleyesrolleyesrolleyes Need to get myself organised!

When can I move in Laura!:(|)

Your new set up looks fantastic, I'm sure your existing gang and the newbies will love it. Can't wait to "meet" your new pair, Baggy looks lovely bless her.x)

Do you have a picture of the old setup to compare the differences? can't seem to work it out in my head? rolleyes

Wow...that is epic! :o
Man...I wish someday in the future to do something similar to this :(|)

When I used to work at Gorgie Farm I remember the herd of girlies they had there and it was fantastic, I always wanted to have something similar to it - I envy your 14!

I'm sure Baggy will be very very happy with you.. Great set up.

Looks amazing Laura I know Baggy will be very happy with you and probably even happier with a name change lol Nick names just seem to stick around here. Looking forward to hearing about her new adventures in her wonderful new home x
