Is it ok for piggies? Can it be given instead of hay or do they still need hay?

I often use Readigrass, Graze on or Just grass for my piggies and they love it:) They usually get it 3 or 4 times a week but they have hay available all the time too.

I also know of people who never use hay - just one of the above. My personal opinion is that there is no substitute for hay. It's good and necessary for the teeth and digestion and is the most 'natural' food for guineas.

However, that is only my opinion and I'm sure other people have their opinions on this too.....................:)

I've been mixing it in with the hay so it should be ok. I just wondered if I should be limiting it?

I give my four boars a handful of readigrass mixed in with their hay every other day, they love it (it does smell very nice lol) I read that it is a brilliant 'substitute' grass for indoor piggies or those who cannot frequent outdoors and with our wonderful British climate...

One of my bun wont eat hay so has readygrass and I give it as a treat to the piggies.

I asked the same question in the bunny forum for my buns and was told it should be limited in buns and can cause problems for them. Also to do with the amount of calcium.

Yes I saw that as well. I only give it a hand full at a time twice a day. He won't eat hay so therefore could have dental problems. I figured that as long as I keep an eye on his urine out put it would be OK. I think I also saw somewhere - may have been RabbitingOn that it doesn't always cause the problem as much as has been portrayed.

I do think that it comes down to common sense, now that he has a wifey bun I hope he will follow her example. x>>
