recently I have found myself on here so much asking about different things, the responses I get are very helpful. I posted about hay and which one to get and I have a few options
readigrass
pets at home timothy hay
hi 5 a day hay( I think that's what its called)
I looked on hay for pets and dust free hay but I was very confused about which hay I should get and I'm not sure how keen my parents are about having massive bales of hay lying around.
Please can you let me know which brand or combination of these hays would be good or if I'm getting it completely wrong.
all the best x

any type of meadow hay is fine - the greener and "fresh "smelling ones being the best .

Timothy hay is great for guineas - but some brands can be a bit pricey .

Readigrass isn't hay and should only be given as treat

sounds good. could I get a bag of meadow hay and just add in some timothy hay?

I use pets at home timothy hay. Although I've found over the years sometimes it's great quality and sometimes it's a bit poor. I mix it with their meadow hay which seems to be amazing quality right now, really green and fresh smelling.

I also mix in oat hay as a treat, or orchard grass hay. You could add in your readigrass as a treat too

ok I have a pets at home literally 2 mins away from my house so that is a great option for me. I don't have guinea pigs yet I'm just researching after my parents said that I can get them once we have redone the garden and playshed

also is that meadow hay from pets at home because I can't seem to find it on their website x

@BubblesPiggies If you're going to be buying their hay from Pets at Home they sell Alfalfa King Timothy Hay. It's not a very good brand name as Alfalfa isn't a type of hay pigs should eat daily but the type Pets at Home sells is the timothy hay (in a bag with a red stripe down it).

It's a fantastic quality hay, very green and fresh smelling. You could that into their meadow hay .

Ok will see if they have that next time i go xx

Hi, I buy meadow hay as one type of bedding and nature's own 5 a day to fill hay racks as it's good quality and reasonable price. Readigrass is not suitable as daily feeding hay.
I found pets at home Timothy hay not worth the money.
Do you have storage/attic area? Or if you have C&C you can make storage below the cage.

When i get them ill have storage on the upper level of my playshed

@Mantha16 I'd be careful with the Bob Martin hay. I used to use it for bedding and found a few random stones and such in it. Once I found quite a large piece of blue synthetic rope.

I emailed them about it and got a snide email back about the hay only being for bedding and not eating so pigs are fine as they won't eat it. Try telling pigs that some hay is for sleeping on and another is for eating.

I stopped buying it after that.

Good to know I haven't managed to persuade mine hay is for eating and so they may wish to not pee all over it lol

I also had cheap hay from wilkos the first vale was super awesome floofy and they loved it the second lot awful.

Ibought Nature's Own 5-A-Day hay recently via Amazon. It smells lovely and is in manageable lengths for his manger. It came in two separate packages, which was handy for storage too. Freddie seems to enjoy it, but it is fine in texture and I'm concerned he's not getting enough fibre?! Might augment it with a courser type of Timothy hay. What do you think?
