Well, I have five guinea pigs -4 sows 1 boar- and I feel that they are not getting all of my attention that they need. I am thinking of rehousing some of them as my life is getting busier as I am entering year 7. I dont know who I would rehome and how many. I am thinking of keeping two or three but also unsure of that. Don't think I have been mistreating them or anything it's just that five are too much for the time I have dedicated to them. Any advice on how many to keep? The ones I would have to give away I would surrender them to the Australian cavy sanctuary. I love my babies and really am so sad to do this. Thanks for any advice in advance

I'm sorry your struggling to cope with your guinea pig's. I do think as long as your pigs home is big enough for everyone, they are cleaned regularly, fed daily and monitored for health problems they can live a healthy life without snuggles.

Most guinea pig's don't enjoy human attention we do it because that's what we do doesn't mean the pigs enjoy lap time. Of course if your unable to provide there daily needs, then maybe it is the best idea to surrender them.

Do they all live together? I wouldn't know who to keep.

They do get there daily needs. I did not realize about the lap time though. The male is kept separate from the ladies of course and they live outside. To conclude, my fantastic dad has offered to help out with them a lot so I won't have to get rid of them. I love them and probably would of regreted surrendering them. Thanks for your advice though. I am very happy my mind is set because they are a family. Literally, by blood!

Thanks again,
Guineagurl

*Oh and mine don't reallllly like that much lap time but I will try harder to spend more time with them*

rehoming your pigs

I am so glad you don't have to rehome your pigs and your dad sounds really nice volunteering to help you while you are busy studying. What a nice thread to read. Hurrah for Dads.

I think, sometimes, we all get a bit overwhelmed with life, our pets and general day to day living, I too have felt at times overwhelmed with uni work, then 'normal' work, and then the house to clean and then the pigs. I can imagine school work and going into year 7 can be a stressful time and the piggie care ontop can just seem a bit too much. It'll be great if your dad can help, and then over the next few months/ year you can perhaps get into a rountine were you dont feel too stressed.

Glad to hear you're not rehoming your little ones, hope your okay!

Thank you, I am fine. I do suppose I will have to work a little routine out for myself when it comes school time again. I am no longer stressed anymore thank goodness! Been worrying about the piggles for dayyysss now.
