Not sure whether this goes under health and illness or behaviour, but here goes...

I went into the pig room to give the piggies their nightly poop scoop, and when I went to pick Gizmo up for a little cuddle, he freaked out.

Since he's still relatively young and I've only had him a few weeks, he can sometimes be a bit jumpy when I try to pick him up, but I've never seen anything like this with him or the other pigs.

I thought he was having a fit, he was twitching so badly. It was like he was popcorning, but he was obviously stressed out.

I did a bit of reading, and so far I've ascertained that a Vit C defiency can do this, but he's been getting plenty of veggies and his food has added Vitamin C (I always make sure!), but I've given him extra veggies just in case.

He's tucking into them now and seems to have really calmed down, so is it likely that this was the problem? Veggie withdrawal symptoms? :{

I'm such a worrier (you might have guessed), someone help!

Has he been treated for mites? If he was a pet store pig, this is very possible and may explain why he dislikes being handled.

The lady in the pet store told me he had been, and although I trust her and it's a good little pet shop, I am considering giving all three pigs a scrub with the anti-mite shampoo, although the other two are showing no symptoms (I watched them for aggges last night and although Dexter had a bit of a scratch, it didn't seem anything out of the ordinary).

Mites seems likely, from all the reading I've done, but he doesn't seem to be scratching or anything, so I'll keep an eye on them today and then decide, because if he's already stressing out over something, a bath is unlikely to calm him!

Hi,

Mites should be treated with Invermectin drops (Applied to back fo the neck), shampoo will only kill lice.
Mites live under the skin unlike lice which are visible, mites will not be removed with just a shampoo.

It will not do any harm to treat him just incase.

Thanks for the advice, I got home from work and he's definitely calmed down, but something is obviously still bothering him, so I'll sort out proper mite treatment in the morning.
