Really Disgusted at Local Pet Shop!

I nipped into our fairly local garden centre for some herbs the other day and as I walked past the pet shop I noticed they had a very small hutch stood outside the door with a big sign on it saying 'Free Guinea Pig with this hutch!' I had to read twice. The hutch was firstly too small, then I was concerned about giving the piggies free to entice the sale, and guinea pig as in singular? I had to go in and have a chat. rolleyes They removed the sign (yay!) but I suspect it went back on when I left the shop! How annoying.
 
Keep on at them. They soon decide that it's not worth the hassle...

After politely *ahem* being asked to leave my local garden centre/pet place, they are at least no longer stocking (I hate that term but it's true!) chameleons :))
 
Complain to your local council!
It's them who issue the licences and will be worth it when they get a visit!
I complained about my local pet shop and they under investigation so I'd encourage anyone to ring them, you'd be surprised how seriously the council takes these complaints :)
 
Now you mention it I think one of the pet shops here does that, or did last year when I was looking at getting my first two. I seem to recall thinking... oh thats not bad... and then I found I could get a bigger and cheaper cage online which was the ferplast 100. This was obviously before I joined the forum and didn't really know much about piggies at all. I'm very glad I didn't fall for their offer as the cage would have been too small and I would have had just one lonely piggy :( it kind of sends the message to the unknowing public that its acceptable and I would have thought so before joining here or talking to the rescue I got my two from. I need to go in there and see if they sell crickets (for when I look after the boyfriends gecko for a couple of weeks) as I don't drive to get them anywhere else so will see if they have anything similar up and talk to them about it.
 
Report them to your local council. There was a pet shop at our local garden centre and it was awful. The animals were kept in poor conditions, they were always doing ridiculous offers such as free rabbit with the smallest hutch in the world and they often had animals free to good home. The pet section has recently closed down due to the council receiving so many complaints.
 
A letter of complaint to the head office is usually worth the time spent on it. And maybe a copy to the local council office.

aw blimey that is just horrible, thanks for trying to educate them.

My lodger said he was in the centre of Morecambe the other day (a dump full of people on the dole with staffies) and there is (another) pet shop opened, well its a reptile centre, and he said in the window was a sign saying 'free bearded dragon when you buy a glass tank'...shocking!
