I noticed Thursday that Albert wasn't eating as much as usualy. He lives in a cage by himself. On Friday he wasn't eating anything and the vets had shut, I managed to get him in at the vets in the pet shop we bought him from(he's 3 by the way) on the Saturday morning. She couldn't see any obvious signs so gave him a injection of antibiotic and a pain killer as it may have been his teeth and told me to see how I go till Monday. I hand fed him all weekend, and he hasnt pooed once. today arrived I took him in and she said he needed dental work so I had to leave him and he was going under anaesthetic to have his molars sorted. I picked him up at 5 and he was sleep and groggy.its now 5 hours since I collected him he has been hand fed and eat more than he has all weekend but still hasn't pooed, he is now wheezing his stomach looks swollen and can barley stand. What else can I do? Is this normall, will he survive the night? Any hell would be Appriciated

Please telephone your vet - there will be an emergency vet available. It is very important that you act quickly, looking for answers on a forum will only delay treatment.

If he hasn't eaten properly & not pooped he may have bloat or even gut stasis, both are medical emergencies, he needs a vet now, please contact the out of hours vet so that he can be given gut stimulants asap if necessary. How competent is your vet with guineas? It's best to use a piggy savvy vet, if you can tell us roughly where you are, someone may be able to recommend one, but you need to act fast.

Thanks, the vet he has been seen didn't do the emergency visits, another came out she knew more, he had pneumonia, and died within the hour of her being there:( just annoyed the other vet didn't pick up on it and said it was his teeth. If anyone can recommend a good guinea pig vet in the Manchester area for my other baby's that would be great. I won't be going back to her!

I am so sorry about what happened. Hopefully, somebody can come up with a good vet - ideally you want to look for an exotics vet, as guinea pigs are classed under that cathegory.
