My poor little girl is not at all well. She's had tummy trouble for the past week or so but she's gone off her food now.
Last night she didn't come out for her veggies, that's when I started panicking. I've been giving her gripe water which seems to help with the bit of bloating she's had. Last night gave her some metatone which perked her up a bit so she had a bit of veg and hay.
Tried to give her some critical care but I think most of it ended up down her chin.
I think her tummy is sore as she's complaining a lot when I check it.
She is producing poo but is straining to get it out. Today she is shivering on and off. Luckily she is self medicating by following Luna round nudging her bum and eating what comes out, so that saves me doing poo soup.
I'd made her an appointment at the vets for tomorrow, but I rang to say I was worried so they are fitting her in today at 12:30.
I'm feeling guilty for not taking her sooner, but I'm unemployed at the moment so am worried about the bill. Plus I couldn't get a sooner appointment with the guinea pig savvy vet (my usual vet left a few weeks ago and I think they are short staffed at the moment).
I'm struggling with depression and could really do without this at the moment. I know I'm catastrophising but I'm dreading her not pulling through.
She'll probably show me up and be fine in a few days.

So sorry you are going through this but you are doing everything you can for her.
She is clearly ill, but also showing that she wants to feel better, which is excellent.
The fact she is seeing a piggy savvy vet is another point in her favour.

Personally if she is showing signs of tummy problems than I would cut out all fresh veg and just stick with hay, pellets and critical care for now.
If she looks cold then maybe make her a box lined with newspaper, lots of hay and a snuggle safe that she can retreat to if she wants.

Good luck with the vet - I have everything crossed for you and Ginny.

Fingers very firmly crossed!

Please keep her warm but not hot on a half-heated snugglesafe if she is shivvering; you need to re-heat it more regularly as soon as it is cold.

Thanks guys. The vet thinks it might be related to her long term Metacam for her bad back. Got to take her off it for 48 hours. Got some Emeprid and fibreplex to give her and critical care twice a day.
Going back on Tuesday to see how she's doing. She's lost 200g since she last went the vets a couple of months ago. I'll start weighing her every day.
The vet didn't find any blockages just lots of loose poo which is a relief.

Well the magic medication and an afternoon lying on a heat pad seems to of perked her up a bit. Luna has a paper bag sleeping bag, which Ginny is trying to eat herself in to!
She's not really eating the hay but having a good go at the paper bag, at least she's interested in something.
Ginny is the ginger one. I think vets should start prescribing paper bags!

Christian sends healing wishes to Ginny (who he thinks is beautiful btw :shh:don't tell Meg) he knows all about bad backs as the vet has diagnosed he has arthritis in his. He is also on long term Metacam. I am a bit worried about what such a hefty dose (0.7ml twice a day) will do to his body. If he doesn't have it he stops eating and loses weight. I weigh him every morning and if his weight stays above 1000g for fortnight I reduce the amount by 0.05ml.

Pleased Ginny has perked up.

Ginny has been eating a bit of hay and forage. She's still not interested in pellets but it's a start. I've finally got the hang of giving critical care without half of it going down her chin! She's more interested in the world around her today and has even been making happy exploring noises.
Luna is getting a bit fed up of being used as a treat dispenser, but Ginny is determined and is eating a lot of Lunas poo. Aren't they clever knowing what they need?
I feel so much better today seeing her improve a little bit. Can't wait to hear her shouting for food again, it's been very quiet.

Mine adore Emeraid, can’t get enough of it. You can get if from eBay or hyperdrug. You need far less of it than critical care and the taste seems to be one that all the piggies like. Emeraid Herbivore

I can second that! Emeraid doesn't have as much fibre, but it goes down a lot better in a crisis!

No I've only got critical care. Are they meant to be better?
Don't think one is better than the other really. I always have a box of SS Recovery Plus in just in case cos the only time you'll need it is when you haven't got any! I must get some Emeraid in too as Betsy prefers that.

Ginny is not keen on critical care. She has just got her revenge on me by shaking her head and splattering it all over me!
Haha, that’s exactly what Ted this morning with his Critical Care, he’s not a fan of any of it! tried mashed up pellets and he’s not impressed with those either. Roll on Monday, when we see Simon!

Just got the Emeraid off eBay, will try Ted on that tomorrow. Has anyone tried Tesco Oat Bran? bought a bag of it today, it’s very fine grains of porridge oats so will soak some for tonight, see if that suits him! He’s becoming quite a tyrant, will only eat dill at the moment and grated parsnip 😕
So glad to hear Ginny has perked up x

Hope he's feeling better after he sees Simon xx

My piggies like SS recovery plus but would rather starve than swallow critical care... worth trying them all if it gets her to eat, I've never tried Emeraid myself but it sounds very popular! Healing wheeks for poor Ginny x
