My guinea pig Ludwig was just making the most oddest noises.

I'm worried because he's been taking medication that is for Cats and dogs that the vet prescribed and I was worried he might be trying to throw up and I heard guinea pigs cannot do that.

I'm hoping I'm overreacting, but he keeps making the noises. I made a small recording of the noise.

If anyone recognizes the noise, please tell me what it means. He was eating hay when he started randomly doing it, so he might also have a bit of that caught in his throat...

Hi, I'm no expert but it sounds similar to hooting

See this thread as there are a few things it could be down to:

There are also some videos of hooting on YouTube that you could listen to to hear if it sounds the same :

What medication is he on ?

It could just be something caught in his throat of course ...

xx

Hi i know a girl who had a piggie with heart probs she was on GL........... it's not her piggie that they talk about but this may help you to recognise the sound...

pretty sure if you go thru this you'll get the sound affects

Best of luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I found it a little hard to hear Ludwig sorry i struggle at times with low sounds......i turned up my puter sounds but grr not enough, but i did hear some irregularities ........ well done for recognising something different in your piggie :)

It was 100% that hooting sound.

He did it for about ten minutes, stopping just once for a few minutes and then carrying on for another minute or so.

Should I be worried? He's going back to the vets on wednesday so I could mention it to the man then.

The medication the vet prescribed him was metacam and I've been giving him once a day as told.

I have heard of others giving metacam too so it should be okay.

If I were you I would mention to the vet on Wednesday when you are there anyway - worth getting him checked out to be on the safe side.

xx
