Thanks! Hours of toil that was ;D I put 9mm wide MDF on top of the bottom cages and sat the top cage on it. My OH has secured the top cage to it using large cable clips...he is a clever sausage! The MDF was my idea though ;)
 
The MDF is a brill idea, will do something similar when I put my girls on the top.

Oh i see i understand complete what you where explaining now, they look good, where do Hamish and Elmo live?
 
Is 2 grids wide enough? I noticed your cage was 5x2, (it looks great BTW). I’m going to buy some cubes this weekend to build mine, I guess I’ll make my own opinion when I get them but are your piggies happy with 2 squares wide?

Also, there was another thread saying that without the correx then hay and sawdust etc goes everywhere…….. do you find that? I was thinking about buying vet bed and just using that with some sawdust but mainly hay……….. what do you think?
 
Piggybaker: Off to the right in a double storey hutch.....I have been trying to get some pics, but my memory card keeps coming up with CF error :-\ When I get some, I will post them here :) They are lovely happy piggies and I am amazed that they are not shy at all! As soon as I go to the hutch or open it, they stick their little noses out and cant wait to come out. They come up to us and run around us no problem :D

guineafriend:2 grids wide is reasonably wide when you consider how wide even a large hutch is :) Each grid is 14 inches wide so that is nearly 2 1/2 foot wide and it is over 6 foot long!
I only have 2 piggies in there and they are very happy. I made the correx as per the instructions on www.cavycages.com and it comes up 6 inches all round. I have found it fab for keeping the aubiose and hay in. The only thing I am concerned about is that they seem to love nibbling it. Before I put correx in, I used lino which didnt come up the sides and I had problems with hay going through it, but not now.
 
I agree, 2 squares is fairly wide. I've done mine 2 grids wide

Now I have 7 pigs I need a bigger house!

I will just say, with winter coming, be aware of avoiding drafts coming from the window, and the heat from the radiator melting or burning the cage/hay too O0

Where did you get those grids from? I love the colours and the grid squares :smitten:
 
I thought of the drafts thing and the radiator and the windows are double glazed plus I have a thermal roller blind so that should be fine and the radiator has its own thermostat which I can keep low so it only gets warm, not hot. I have a tumble dryer in the kitchen which heats up the lounge anyway ;D

I was so luckly with the grids, I got the coloured ones on ebay for 99p and the rest are the screwfix ones :)

I like the coloured grids, I got some without holes in as my boys are nibbliers and I was concerned about that. I think 2ft is fine gives them a good run mine like to run up and down the length of cages and hutches. I can't wait to do mine, I'm just a little bit too excited! :D

Ah ha! Now I understand and... Wow! What a fab set-up. It's great that you've created such a close community for them all. It must be like talking to your neighbours over the garden fence!
 
Great set-up and bargin coloured ones of ebay.
I saw some pink ones the other day on ebay but they are in America and it would cost $80 to ship them over here!
