Whilst this run of record-breaking bad weather, consisting of gales and floods, continues - I will carry on posting generic warnings as each successive Low/storm moves across the country.

During this exceptional AND UNUSUAL run of bad weather, please also keep checking the Met Office and Environment Agency websites for relevant derails pertaining to where you live, to ensure you are informed at all times about the possible risk of damage to property and life in your local catchment area....including animal life.

Please do NOT ignore the warnings - it CAN happen to you and yours. No-one is invincible and this weather is NASTY.

Yesterday I learned my SIL was driving back from work in the gales on monday evening, despite my advance warning to stay off the roads after a certain time, and her car was hit by a tree. She was lucky to escape unscathed because she was driving the family tank rather than her little Beetle - and was therefore able to give her 3 kids the Xmas they were looking forward to.

Today I learned that at least 2 rescues/sanctuaries next to rivers in the South East have "woken up" to flooding over Xmas and owned up publicly that some of the the animals in their care have drowned in floodwater - this includes large farm animals and at least 3 guinea pigs. I'm afraid I find this completely irresponsible and upsetting as they had at at least 24hours warning of wind and floods in their "at risk" areas and should have ensured
a) they kept themselves updated given they were already in flood risk areas and
b) the animals were moved to safe places
but for whatever reason they didn't act....and just "went to bed" leaving nature to wreak its havoc.

OK - just to clarify - none of the examples above relate to TGPF Rescues/members, you're all clearly heeding the warnings and I hope you all manage to stay safe.

Rant over....let's get down to business.

There are yellow warnings out for wind and rain tonight into tomorrow and again on wednesday. The conditions might not be as severe as recently perhaps, but on top of already saturated ground, trees WILL fall and there WILL be more flooding. In addition the models are showing a really nasty storm approaching for 6th Jan....which I will post about nearer the time.

Please keep checking to see if your region is affected. Links are here:

The weather fraternity are hoping that the weather will change in mid-Jan to reflect more of a "winter" theme ....but the current models are still too far in the future to say for certain.

Be sensible - keep checking - stay safe. If in doubt - bring your outdoor animals inside....or at the very least stay up during the worst of the night weather to ensure you can react if an emergency develops to save your furries.

Wednesday from 6am onwards: then Friday/SaturdayYellow warnings of rain issued for:
London and South East
South West
Wales
West Midlands
North West
Northern Ireland
Grampian
Strathclyde
Central, Tayside, Fife
SW Scotland

My local area Environment Agency office for the South East are very concerned about the level of rainfall expected to fall over the next few days and into the weekend onto already saturated ground and swollen water courses/rivers....so much so they rang me today as a courtesy early warning. My pigs were moved to well-above floodwater height before Xmas and their carriers made ready in case we have to evacuate either upstairs or to safer ground. I have a local vet hospital number to hand that have staff resident 24hours a day in case the piggies need to emergency board somewhere for a couple of days.

If you live near a water course or in an area where surface water/river flooding could be an issue please take care, be prepared, act responsibly and ensure your pets/valuables are safe on high ground before you go to bed. Take care on the roads and plan/check your route before setting off.
Too many cars have been stranded and too many animals have already drowned this Xmas because either people are not paying attention to the warnings issued by the Met office and Environment Agency or failing to take proper precautions.

You can enter your postcode to find out if you are at risk of flooding on the EA website which is updated every 15minutes...and if you are at risk you should be signed up to the Flood Warning system for your area.

We have one more incoming storm on 6th January and then hopefully that will be the end of this weather.

Hope you all have a warm, dry and Happy New Year.

This is getting so tiring!
Thanks you for keeping us all updated!

Still yellow warnings of rain for today/tomorrow.

The (hopefully last) low pressure area will hit sunday and things may become a bit gusty again but this storm has been downgraded as it has approached over the last few days.

Flooding is still an issue for both inland and coastal areas - Environment Agency currently have 94 flood warnings and 259 Flood Alerts - keep monitoring as some of these may be upgraded as water moves downstream in rivers and as the storm approaches the coasts.

3day flood risk forecast including monday:

have just come back from work in Malmesbury where people at the bottom of the town were flooded out early hours of Christmas eve morning, New Years Day, and now keep running backwards and forwards because the river Avon is just about to burst its banks again,it will probably go tonight - so that will be 3 times in 2 weeks, some of them only moved back in a month ago after they were flooded out last Christmas.
