Hi all, just wanted to pass on my best wishes to all of you who have recently lost a beloved pig. It's been a month now since we lost Merlin (on the left). Thankfully his brother Megatron (on the right obviously!) is coping very well being a solo pig for the time being. He's booked in for a bonding/dating session with Suzy at Glynneath GPR in early May, and as he is neutured we're hoping he'll come home with a girlfriend or two. Whilst Megatron is coping well, I have no problem admitting that I'm still struggling to come to terms with Merlin's passing. I take comfort in the fact that we gave him the very best quality of life, and I'm fortunate enough to work from home so he and his brother had regular interaction with me throughout the day. I just wish he had longer with us - he passed at 3 3/4yrs old, and I always thought/hoped he would make at least the 'average' 5yrs as he was always in good health. Sadly we don't feel we've had much luck with our pets - we lost our last dog Cosmo aged just 20 months at the end of 2017. He had epilepsy throughout his short life which we eventually found out was being caused by an incurable degenerative brain disease. Whilst the circumstances of his passing were completely different to Merlin's, it's brought back the familiar feelings associated with low mood/depression that I suffered from back then. I'm really hoping that Megatron's upcoming dating session is successful, and that it will help give me something new and positive to focus on. Thanks for reading, and once again I wish all of you coping with the passing of a beloved pig the very best in coming to terms with your loss.

Hi Andrew, I'm sorry for your loss of Merlin and Cosmo. Two of my piggos have gone this year, fairly suddenly and like you I am finding it very hard, even having lost many people, it feels just as bad. I feel like a piece of me dies with them and can't bear to think of never seeing them again. If I'm lucky sometimes I get to see one of my departed pigs in a dream. This forum and members and posts like yours are so comforting, it helps to know that there is a place where you can talk about it and other people understand how you are feeling. Many non-guinea pig people don't get it. Yesterday I couldn't work and took a day off as my Bella pig was pts on Tues evening. I loved her so deeply, it was like I was hit by a bolt of love and had no control over it. Yesterday was spent love-bombing the other pigs. They all got cleaned out, Arna had a bath and trim and their pens were re-configured. That helped and thinking that when it all seems pointless, my life can actually have a purpose, of helping and loving guinea pigs. Thank you for giving the opportunity to post this. Take care of yourself. Good luck Megatron for your dating session. 🐾

I'm very sorry for your losses this year too, what a horrible start to 2019 for you. It certainly hurts as much as losing friends and family when a pet passes, often moreso for me if I'm honest. That's a very good point you make about realising you can still devote energy into looking after other pigs when you lose one. I'm lucky in that my close friends are animal lovers too so they understand what I'm going through to a certain extent, but not as well as the likes of yourself on here. This forum really is great, and hopefully in the future I'll be in a position to put up some happier posts!

Hey, sorry for your loss of Merlin .and with Megatron, if he dates a sow, it has very good chances of working out. My sow and boar worked out just fine first time after about 10 minutes, and i didnt even date them first( which i should have)

So sorry you have lost both Merlin and Cosmos, it’s always a very sad time when you loose a beloved pet. Sending you hugs :hug:Looking forward to photos of Megatron and a couple of wifelets x
