We got our new baby minnie from a local place on the 22nd july. Noticed on sunday she had a little swollen eye and by monday morning arranged vet visit and said conjunctivitis :/ she also has a very small patch of fur missing next to her eye and vet wasnt too concerned for now but said to keep an eye out incase ringworm :/ not what i needed to hear with going on holiday and them boarding whilst away.

Ive read about being able to reclaim vets costs? How does that work? I had to pay for them to be health checked and have had treatment for mites which i had suspected so had them all done just incase, and she was fine (saturday) so sods law 24hr after her eye is bad and cost £65 for eye drop and a cream. Any help would be great as I'm no too impressed. They are a really reliable place too so surprised but still they need to made aware. Is there anything i need to ask or advise them to pay for vet costs.. she is in for a check up before boarding tuesday morning.

Feeling bit deflated with going on holiday too. I dont want to leave her now :/

Just contact the pet shop and explain the situation. I did with my piggies. They covered everything.

I had a 30 day guarantee with my piggies. I wasn't going to call, but the one had an uri and skin infection that spread to the other one. I had three vet visits in a couple of weeks. Do not feel bad. I was super nice and so we're they. I was nervous though. Wishing you luck!

Thank you, what did you say if dont mind me asking? Only reason i ask is i had a piggy chops last year i got eith his brother from a rescue near me and he got poorly the week we got him, cost me over £200 in the first week but when i spoke to them they totally shut me down and said that is what happens. I didnt know about the return money thing and didnt feel right being a rescue but wondering if i could?

Purchasing piggies is covered under consumer legislation - Sale of Goods Act etc. You have consumer rights.
Adopting from a rescue is not a “sale” and no legal rights.

Thank yoi Vicki, i did wonder if that was the case as i paid for them as such i did question it but i know they use that to cover costs previous i think?
Thank you

I just said that I had purchased two guinea pigs the one has a Uri and bacterial skin infection that has spread to the other one. I had called a few days after I got them to ask about missing fur and sneezing. She offered to pay the bills.

I nicely told her that I was very disappointed that the boys were sick. I said we were so excited to give them a home. However it wasn't enjoyable because we have been worried. Taking them to the vet added more stress they did not need. I told her I would expect to be sold a healthy animal. I also told her she should make sure none of the other piggies at the store were sick.

I hope you get some help with the vet bills. Mine were over 200 dollars in the first week and a half. To be honest I expected them to blow me off, but they didn't. What did I have to lose? I wasn't nasty about it, just matter of fact.

Where did you get your pigs from? Like Vicki said you will be covered if they came from a shop but not if they came from a rescue. And if they came from a breeder then good luck as everytime I've seen someone try that on here the breeder has got angry and stopped all communication

She was from a pet store in uk near me. Sadly called then they said i should of called them and taken her back for them to take to their vet, they wont cover costs ive paid now :/ apparently was on my form..which I'm looking for!

Sorry! I would tell them you took them to a vet you were comfortable with and are planning to use in the future. Not sure why that would matter. Hope you can get it sorted out!
