i have some nail clippers now but they are too thick and i find it difficult to use them.

the vets always have those really thing, small ones which look much easier to control.

i can't find them anywhere though!

I have the same ones as Joanne but I don't really like using them - too bulky for me!

I usually use nail clippers designed for small dogs, not the exact ones I'm linking to but you get the idea:

The CCT use some really neat little ones but I've not discovered exactly what they are, as yet. :))

I used mine once but only for the back claws... I discovered Fred seems to keep his claws short on the front I have no idea how! Is this normal? I think he's scratches with them! rolleyes

Front claws seem to grow much slower than the back claws on many pigs. Not all, but I have also noticed that the front ones seem to be slower growing on many. The front nails have a tendency to curl in adult pigs, not so much in youngsters. Jasmine, one of my girls, has a nail that curls so tightly I can only hook it to clip it with human nail clippers, it's such a tightly curled thing!

I'll need to check Fred's aren't doing that, but I don't think they are! rolleyes

A trip to the local hardware/DIY shop should provide you with what you need. Look for a pair of small side cutters.
That is all that they are, if you go to a pet shop you will probably get the same thing but at an inflated price!

those in the first link are the ones i have now. they are too bulky i think. i can't use them very well.

chesneys first nail on each front foot curls really badly and i find it so difficult to cut them. he doesn't like having his nails done anyway so trying to hold his foot and cut aswell is really difficult.

laura, would you buy those in the link you posted? or was that just for an idea?

i might ask the vets if i can buy some off them that they use. they're so thin and they make it look so easy when they use them. ches was good for the vet cutting them! {:|

I only posted the ones in the link for an idea, I would want to see them in person to make sure they are small enough...worth asking your vets what they use if you think they would be ideal!

I use OH's second best pair of small side cutters. Nice and sharp. I don't dare touch the best ones on pain of death!

The bordom breakers ones come in two sizes you need to look for the mini ones and they are fab. I bought a pair of the larger ones but they were too bulky to manover - the mini ones are perfect!

How much will it cost to get a vet to cut their nails? Mine really need them cutting. As I'm too clumsy and not steady handed...

Hi Emmy,

I've heard some vets charge about £5. Given that pigs need their nails trimming monthly, that's £60 a year...not really worth it! Can you have someone else hold the pig for you as you trim the nails, or someone else trim the nails while you hold the pig?

i ordered these from ebay, they came today and i've done the piggies nails. they were really great to use. even with chesneys curly nails! he has a couple that grown really tightly curled.

so thanks for recommending them. :)
