Ollie pigwig and Tallulah-oollah have just been to see the vet nurse for new year nail trims and health checks (Ollie squealed like he was being murdered, Tallulah was very good but wouldnt keep still of course!)
But the vet nurse was saying they had been flooded with phone calls from people who didnt want to see the vet they just had routine guinea pig care inquiries from unprepared new owners... so we recommended the forum and the vet nurse wrote it down and is going to direct any new guinea pig owners here with routine inquiries :)
This morning apparently someone was phoning the vet to ask whether to moisturise their skinny pig and the vet nurse was eagerly waiting for Tallulah to arrive to ask for skinny pig skin care advice because she's the only one they've seen before!

It’s great that they are prepared to recommend the forum for routine care and behaviour enquiries. I’m sure they will have seen that we don’t profess to be vets or to give diagnostic of therapeutic advice so the 2 (vet practices and forum) complement each other well.

Yes it was more for the people who phone them asking about routine grooming and bedding and carrots- the vet nurse said often experienced pet owners know more about those sort of things that the vets themselves unless the vets have piggies of their own!

I've often thought this, the forum knows more about actually looking after guinea pigs, hands on. and the vets know everything about how to treat illnesses. Our vets Simon and Kim have their own rabbits, so know alot about Guinea pig care too, which I think is similar. They've probably had guine apigs and other pets, I don't know, not only this but they are leaning alot from teas aswell as teaching alot to her over the years and teas passes it on to us, which is brilliant
