My phone died so couldn't update. I was going to message you @lauraboara to see if you going this evening for anything as wanted a carrot dropping off for Tyrone. The surgery went well and he has the abscess stitched open to let it drain. It needs flushing 4 times a day so they are keeping him until at least Saturday. He wasn't eating when I spoke with Gemma and still very groggy. :( xx

Sorry my internet has been down at home so slow to see this, will PM you!

My boy is home. The vet said he isn't out of the woods yet and he has a huge hole in his abdomen.
I have to flush it with iodine solution everyday and he is on antibiotics and pain relief. He also got a bag of critical care food but will see how he goes on now he is home. She said he was a sassy little character and mucky pup as he likes to sit in his weee. That isn't helping him recover. They also tried a cone on him as he wont leave the wound alone but he disagreed with that too. So lots of TLC and wound washing and see how it goes. Thank you so much @lauraboara for taking Tyrone a pack up of veggies he had a good nibble on them all x x

Bless him, that looks sore x
I could cry for him. When I am home I try to keep him on me so he can't touch it. I leave the tv on when I go out and have put the girls next to him to take his mind off it. I really dont know what else I can do. I am flushing it and changing everything in his cage daily. X x

i feel for you and Tyrone,is there anyway you can cover the wound lightly...very difficult.to try and stop him pulling at the wound.ive just had three of my young boars neutered three weeks ago.so I'm very greatful all are healing well.xx

I am so happy your boys are doing well.
I will see what the vet says tomorrow. He spent 3 days in the hospital there and they couldn't get him to stop going at it either. Sounds awful but the bill is just rising too. I just want him to be healed now and this a distant memory. The vet said it could go either way x x

i know on human wounds sometimes a plastic spray is placed over childrens sutures.Due to Tyrone having an abcess this will not be possible.i have seen a knitted stocking placed over a guinea pig to stop chewing.similar to tubigrip but made of bandage not elastic.Zithromax is very good for abcesses,it is the drug of choice.Hugs to you,i hope he rallies through, you are doing all you can.xx

Stewy recommended that too. I will ask the vet tomorrow. Both the guinea pig vets are on holiday this week , bad timing for us.
A sock is a good idea I will have a think of what I can put over it. Thank you x x

if you have any stretchy loose socks, cut the top off,put holes where the arms go,but ensure it is very loose and need to wash frequently.i would ask your vet first.x

Bless you.It must be difficult but you are doing your best x

well they yellow was just dead skin. The vet cleaned it all up and said it was doing really well. There is no abscess just the hole and the chewing he did last night was superficial. He goes back on Thursday but she said I can take him tomorrow to have it cleaned if I would rather them do it than me. xx

The other thing you can get is a lint pad & the side you put on the wound is shiny & absorbent so it doesn't stick to the wound, so it will absorb all the yuck. But you will still have to put to a sock on & keep it flushed with salt water. 1-2 teaspoons in boiling water. Then when cold you can use it, but only put clean pads in it.
Is this a bite or an abscess.

I am flushing it with iodine solution twice a day and trying to keep him occupied so he doesn't chew on it. It was an abscess after his neuter but he had a second op to remove and drain it. He keeps biting it though :( xx

We are on salt water now as the iodine ran out.
The girls went out today for grass time. Omg I am so happy. ... I just brought them back in abd Tyrone is popcorning ! ! He isn't a popcorning piggy so it was a joy to see abd he was trying to get into them. I am hoping he is on the end but to see him popcorn since the 1st time I have had him is amazing x x

Just seen this thread. I use the same vet as Laura. Mark is very knowledgeable. I wouldn't trust my guinea pigs with any other vet.
Tyrone looks to be taking an interest in life again. Hope everything goes to plan from now on.

He has seen even vet there. They all know him now lol. Mark did his second op and he is seeing him tomorrow.

I am so happy my boy is feeling better x x

Mark is very thorough. I also like Kyle who is based at Strensall and sometimes covers for Mark. The nurses at the practice are lovely too. All the best for tomorrow.
