Hi,
We have 4 Guinea pigs a male and his 3 happy girls. This afternoon while they were feeding on some grass outside a cat attacked our poor male Cubi and he squeeked very loudly from paint. the cat let him go but he was very very frightened. We gathered all 4 of them and placed them in their cage, we inspected Cubi for wounds but found Noone visible but his front leg is very sensitive and he's limping, fortunately no blood. Right now he is lying on his side and having every minute or so he has like a spasm. He tried to eat something but didn't finish. We are going to take him to the vet tomorrow morning (in about 9 hours) but I want to know if there's anything else I could do, we love him very much and it's painful to see him in such discomfort.
Anyrhing would help
Thank you

You need to get to a vet as soon as possible to make sure all is well.
Sorry this has happened to you but is does show how careful you have to be when there are predators around.
Hope all works out well with Cubi - please keep us posted.

Please have your guinea pig seen by a vet as soon as possible as a potential life and death emergency. Be aware that your guinea pig can have internal injuries or go into shock in the hours after the attack.
Emergency and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Please do not free roam your guinea pigs outside and make sure that any run is cat/dog/fox and bird of prey proof to prevent further attacks, as they always happen too quickly for you to step in in time.

Hi, just to let you know that Cubi is doing OK, he's looking around for food and doesn't have spasms anymore. We put him together with the most active of his girls in a separate cage and they are talking and just keeping each other company. I would have taken him to the vet immediately but there are no 24 hr exotic pet hospitals in here. Our vet is on his way and he'll be seeing Cubi in an hour.
I'm sorry for being so reckless about having them roam in the garden, they had so much fun running freely that it had become a weekend routine. Won't happen again :(
I'll keep you posted, in the mean time here's a photo of him in other day20180508_224339.webp

Aww I hope he is ok.. such a shock for you...

So glad Cubi seems to be recovering from his ordeal, hope the vet finds nothing to worry about.
Piggies all do love grass time, could you buy or make some kind of covered run that a cat can't get into, so Cubi and his wives can go in the garden safely?

Piggies love being outside on the grass, can you buy a secure run with a lid so they can still enjoy the sunshine and grass again x Hope your poor boy makes a full recovery x

Glad Cubi is recovering.
Hope the vet gives him the all clear and he’s fully well again soon.

He’s a lovely looking boy

Glad all is well and your piggie is recovering he is stunning!
I have my pigs (well pig now as we are solo currently) in a large outdoor run with strong mesh wire & hidey places off the grass & shade. I still weight it down with bricks to push it into the grass firmly. I got it 2nd hand from ebay for £40 so if thats an option, your pigs can still enjoy the outdoors 🤗

SOOO glad that it is not a serious injury and that Cubi is still here! :yahoo:

You can give your piggies still plenty of outside time, but just with a firmly lidded pen. It can be as large as you want to make as long as predators can get in. Would you consider looking into bird aviaries? I know that some people use them (prefereably without birds) to keep predators off guinea pigs enjoring a larger safe outdoors space and would allow you to share the space with them if wished.

I have lost my first own childhood piggy to a dog attack from a neighbour's dog who wiggled through their badly maintained fence and managed to break into the cage. it was very upsetting at the time.

Wow, thank you all for your kind words and support, this is such a great community!
So update, we just got back from the vet and Cubi does have some injuries (teeth marks) around his neck but the vet said they are not deep enough so he didn't recommend an antibiotics shot since that could mess up his intestinal Flora and cause unneeded trouble. He did however cut his hair and clean the wound with an antiseptic and I'll be doing that 2 times a day for a week. I still have to check if an abscess is being formed around the wounded area since that would be a clear sign of infection and antibiotics would have to be administered. Hopefully it doesn't go that far.
As a suggestion for person reading this in despair and desperation (as I was yesterday). Take your pig to the vet immediately, if that's not possible right away take a deep look at your pig, wounds may not bleed but they are still there. Try to clean the outside area with an antiseptic and let your pig rest with plenty of his favorite food and water.
Thank you all again for your support and hopefully cubi makes a complete recovery soon.

You have done a good job getting him the proper attention that he needed - fingers crossed for a speedy and uncomplicated recovery for sweet Cubi.

Hello! Yes cubi is making a complete recovery. His wounds have healed and the vet also didn't find any sign of infection though a still keep checking for lumps or any suspicious conduct. He's eating well and drinking water... Thank you all for your support! Here is the happy little piggy family 20181231_092006.webp
