Hi, my gp who the vet previously thought (from no cultures, just a blacklight) had ringworm and was thoroughly treated for several months including a dozen baths, cage cleanings and 6 week course of itrafungal. Still had weird stuff that showed up under blacklight after all that and vet was mystified. Since we have been bathing her in antifungal shampoo to keep her skin under control every few weeks.

We dont think it was ever ringworm as she never had any bald patches and it never passed to us. I think its some other type of less serious fungus, possibly yeast? I recently bought GG Kwench lotion as i heard great things about it. After 4 days her ear is clear under blacklight! Which is great, but now where the hair starts at the back of her ears is red? I dont know if its to do with the cream or? Chrissie from GG said it looked like ringworm and i highly doubt that because of her prior treatments, all other pigs are fine, no bald patches and now no flourescent under blacklight etc. I'm continuing the cream once a day. Can anyone put my mind at ease? IMG_20230122_204618.jpg

Hi
Unfortunately, it also looks like the classic pink/red rings around a ringworm patch on bare skin to me, too. All it takes to restart ringworm is just one spore (which can stay live for over two years in my own experience) to hang around somewhere and to be picked up in order to restart the whole cycle all over again. Ears are a difficult place to get on top of ringworm as it normally sits at the root of hairs. Guinea pigs with a lower immune system can additionally struggle more. :(

Ringworm is majorly a hygiene problem because of its long lived invisibly tiny spores and its species jumping high contagion; it is not a killing disease. There is always a risk that it can come back within the next two years even with the best of measures. It can be very frustrating indeed, as I know from my own experiences over the years.
