It’s been a few months since I last posted, but unfortunately, I’ve run into a possible issue with my piggy, Olaf.

His appetite seems to be decreasing. Right now, the only thing he’ll try to eat is forage, and Timothy treats. I noticed he’d spit out a few bits of forage, and it came out with a red kind of jelly substance on it. And I can’t figure out what it may be since I don’t think blood would look like that.

I have already spoken to his vet about this, and we are trying to figure out a solution until he can be seen, but right now, I’m hoping to get some advice.
(I am already trying to feed him critical care until his appetite is back to normal.)

I’ll try to attach a photo, but I’m sorry the lighting isn’t good. :(

Thank you. 🤍

I’m sorry Olaf is poorly. It’s great you are syringe feeding him. You need to weigh him every morning and that will show you how much to feed that day. If he lost weight feed more than the day before.

When is the vet appointment? Can you get him some pain medication before?

Good luck I hope he’s soon feeling better

Hi

iUnfortunately, it is impossible to say what it is to be honest. Take it to our vet to show them. I hope that your vet can find out what is going on in the mouth. This is not typical for overgrowing teeth.

All the best. You may need to up the amount of Critical Care you get into him over the course of 24 hours in order to try to stabilise the weight or at least slow down the weight loss.

All the best.

Luckily, his appointment is later today, and I can update on his diagnosis. I’ve been feeding as much as I can but he’s definitely a stubborn pig.

But good news, he seems to be picking at his hay now and eating a little. I appreciate the help!

Just got out of the vet! His teeth are a bit overgrown and unaligned. He’ll be having a teeth trim tomorrow morning. I’m really nervous about him going in for that but I’m hoping he’ll feel better.

He also got metacam to help with the pain!

I’m pleased he’s got painkillers. Good luck tomorrow. I hope the dental goes ok. 🤞🏻

Olaf just got back from the vet. They said he was doing great afterward, and he nibbled on some food. He’s still not eating, but he just got home and may need a minute to calm down.
He did eat some banana by himself last night.

His brother did give him some kisses when he got back. They're usually arguing, so that was a change. 😹
