My guinea pig has developed a red ‘stye looking’ bump in the corner of his eye. No emergency vets who treat exotics are open today. Any idea of what this is and 153A81F3-6957-4824-891A-3C5DEB93877D.webp if this is an urgent issue?

Oooh that looks nasty, some kind of ulceration perhaps.
If your guinea pig is registered with a vets, they ordinarily will offer emergency service or a call facility.
Maybe some else has some thoughts.

Our pig has never been ill and does not have a regular vet. Being a Sunday and that he’s an exotic we’ve run the gamut of emergency vets in Kansas City. I do have someone who can see him tomorrow, but my son is so worried about the pig.

If your pig is housed with a friend, then they will no doubt they will keep licking it so best they are kept separate for the time being until you get to the vets.

Thank you! If you think of anything else please let me know.

Thank you! We have a vet appointment tomorrow. It was the soonest we could be seen. He does not seem to be in pain, but it looks gross and is weeping. I’ll let you know what they say. I just hope poor Theo does not lose an eye.

Theo has a common eye infection. The red lump is an inflamed gland. They are flushing the eye and giving antibiotic eye drops. Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry from Sunday. We were so worried - thank you.

That's great news, good hear he's got veterinary care, let's hope he continues responding well and gets better very soon.
Paws crossed.
