Hey all,

New here, we’ve just been to the emergency vets tonight as our 5 year old boy has a strange lump on his chest between his front paws. It is bright red as if there’s a thin layer of something holding the blood in. He had cut it on something today so there was blood in his cage - however we haven’t noticed anything on him before.

Our vet doesn’t know what it is and isn’t an exotic animal specialist. We’ll try and contact some other vets tomorrow.

I can post a picture but it wasn’t very nice so not sure anyone would want to see it :(

Poor piggy, our normal vets is saying it would be £1000 to remove it :(

Hi there. I’m sure you’ll get advice from the admins but thought I’d look for the vet list for you. I wouldn’t think it would cost that amount - far too high! Don’t know if any of these are close to you - you can look up the vet list in the menu. Best of luck. I’m off to the vet 1 hour away tomorrow (today!) with 3 of mine. 🙈IMG_2991.webp

Thanks so much x I had Greenbay on our list to ring so I’ll call them this morning.

In good news (I think…?) it’s burst and he’s eating and drinking fine - ringing them in a minute when they open x

Oh that’s good! Come to think of it, one of my boys had something similar last year. It burst itself and then didn’t come back. It wasn’t an abscess as there was just blood and no pus. (It’s funny that I couldn’t remember this at 1 in the morning!) Hope the vet can confirm what it is and give advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m glad your piggy is feeling ok and the lump has popped. Good luck at the vets. Keep us posted.

Feel free to post the photo. It will help people in the future with similar issues.

Thanks lovely x they’re wondering if it’s from him bumping himself on his cage, so a haemotoma.

It’s flat like a week or two old scab after a deeper cut now.

This is what it looked like before though x

Oh bless him. What was the vet advice? Just keep an eye on it? Did they prescribe any medication? Sending healing vibes to him.

Thanks lovely, yep now it’s burst we just need to carry on with the pain relief, spray to clean the area with a special cleaner every 8 hours too.

If it gets worse or doesn’t heal then they’ll refer us on x

Poor love, he’s such a cute piggy - he’s currently eating lots of hay which has made him happy :) x
