a small red scab-like bit found on my skittish piggie’s upper right lip today :(

its not too noticeable until closer inspection because the front of biscoff’s mouth is naturally a bit pink, but when you see him from the side the scab does stick out quite a bit.

we have had 2 guineas from january this year so my partner and i are still new piggie parents!

there is one that is more dominating which is bico, and this one is biscoff. they dont get into rumble strutting arguments quite as often so i have a feeling it might not be bc of an altercation between them.

but i feel like it might be because of a collision biscoff has had with our wooden hides as his skittish personality does cause him to jump and run if we are to even stand up near the cage.

we’re not sure but we’re really hoping its not an infection or ringworm💔

any help is massively appreciated thank you

sorry omg idk how to add pictures, ill make it my profile pic for now

Welcome to the forum

You add a picture by pressing ‘attach files’. You will find this under the message box but the option may not yet be visible to you - it will become visible once your registration on the forum is complete (behind the scenes).

Until you add a picture we obviously can’t advise but upon what you have written - scabs around the mouth - there is an infection called cheilitis which appears as scabs around the mouth and is caused by bacteria getting into cracks in the skin. It must be treated properly as it can be a very serious condition if left.
(Feeding fruit or acidic items can exacerbate the cracks and make cheilitis more of a risk)

Once you can add a picture we can advise further - but our advice is almost certainly going to be that you need to see a vet - whether we still think it could be cheilitis or not . Only a vet is able to diagnose and treat any issue.

Hi and welcome

Our forum is not part of social media and the posting of photos is only allowed once all security checks have been passed. So the way that always works is via the Attach Files button by your post when you write. It should appear now.

Quite a number of different 'scabs' can turn up on guinea pig lips from dried food, scratches or from a lip infection (the medical term is cheilitis).

You can find a picture of a cheilitis piggy in this link here: Guinea Lynx :: Cheilitis
