Hi,
we have just noticed that our sows have red specks of something on the hair of their rumps. It does not come off when wiped with a towel. They were bathed yesterday. It is not at the base of the hair but rather near the tips. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Does it look like dirty dandruff, but stuck in the hair? If so it is most likely 'walking dandruff' - hay mites. A shampoo with an insecticidal shampoo such as Johnson's insecticidal shampoo for small animals or Gorgeous Guinea's Lice n Easy shampoo should rid you piggies of these litle visitors - a new source of hay would be a good idea, or zap it by the bagful in the microwave.

Thank you. We have just ordered some lice n' easy from Chrissie. We put hay from a new supplier in last Friday and yesterday. Do you think this could be the problem?:{

It can well be - hay is a prime source for skin parasites and a new batch coinciding with problems is always suspicious.

Oh no :{
I'm having issues with my hay at the moment too, same supplier, it's the dam weather pow-pow
I am treating my girls with Revolution and i gave them a bath with malaseb
GOOD LUCK XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
