I've posted before about what turned out to be oxidised wee. But after they had their veg for tea, I saw Primrose do a poo with some fluid/wee which was bright red. I've just done their spot clean and found other red/pink patches. After completing the clean I've just seen Primrose wee and poo without redness/just tiny spots of red. They've both had red pepper for breakfast (and I think yesterday breakfast) and have had some beet leaves in the last few days. Could these cause bright red wee and does anybody know how long the redness takes to 'flush through'? Also, does anybody know if they cause red wee some times and not others, because we don't have this issue every time they have red pepper etc?

She's absolutely fine in herself, eating and drinking etc, and is not straining or squeaking when toileting. Of course, I saw this red fluid coming out of her and immediately panicked that it was a UTI or something sinister. As she seems fine I'm now assuming this is not an emergency or anything, but will monitor her 'output' this evening. If the redness reappears /continues I'll ring Matlock when they open tomorrow and see if I can book her in with Ellie Whitehead.

I would personally have them both checked out for a uti. If it is a uti, try not to worry as a course of antibiotics should clear it :)
Yes - on reflection I will call Derwent Valley Vets tomorrow and see when I can book them in for an appointment with Ellie; to set my mind at rest at least! Primrose does unfortunately like sleeping in their favourite toilet spots so she could have picked up an infection.

I’ve had two girls with an infection before, they can pick it up off each other unfortunately. Let us know how you get on

I think the vet can easily either confirm a possible UTI or set your mind at rest with a quick urine test strip that changes colour if blood or protein is present in the wee. If its a UTI hopefully a week of foul tasting antibiotics will fix things, that's what our Piggle had when she got a UTI for xmas! Xmas eve at the vets but she was better by new year, better to catch things early at the first sign :)

Thanks all - have managed to get them both booked in at the vets today at 11.30 so hopefully we can get this sorted!

Been to the vets this morning - Primrose has got cystitis or interstitial cystitis (though probably a mild case of it this time as she's not been in any obvious distress with it). Ellie examined her lower quarters etc and there was nothing untoward or painful; she checked her urine and even though it looked clear the test showed a small trace of blood. So she's going to be having half a capsule of Cystophan on her breakfast each day for the next month - after a bit of a post-vet annoyance protest she's had some on cucumber today, so fingers and paws crossed her natural greed will win over and we won't have too much of a battle over it! Ellie examined Stanley aswell but he looks fine.

I’m glad that you’ve been to the vets. My Ellen has had interstitial cystitis for the last 3 years. She did go 8 months with no flares but it started up again at the end of last year :( but like your girl, she has it on the mild side and apart from the odd squeaky wee and blood in urine episodes (which she has had for the last 6 weeks now and is being treated for) you would never know

At the moment I suppose I won't know if it's a one-off bout or IC unless we get another red wee episode... She's fine in herself though and was popcorning this morning (before she knew she was going to the vets!) She's had a long nap and now seems to have recovered from the indignity of it all and is out munching the hay! Best wishes for Ellen

Just found some more bloody patches of Carefresh again , but I suppose that's not surprising given that she's had a stressful day.

She's being a good patient so far and has had her Cystophan this morning on some pepper and cucumber with no fuss, so I'm hoping we can continue like this and it has some effect!

Glad you got a vet check so quickly and now you know what you’re dealing with.
Hoping for a speedy recovery
