Hello,
Today I have just noticed that there are 2/3 poops in my guinea pigs' cage which have an unusually red tint, not partially red or completely bright red, just a reddish tint that looks different to their normal poops.
Not sure if it may be their diet as they have recently just started having vitamin c solution put in their water (about 2 weeks ago) and my mum gave them some yellow pepper yesterday so I'm not sure if that could have been it.
Also if it makes any difference, both of my Guinea pigs have also had ivermectin injections and treatment for suspected mites due to a bit of hair loss on one of my guinea pigs, Alfie, which looks a bit down even though his hair is growing back?
Any replies would be much appreciated as I am slightly panicking!

Have your piggies had beetroot or anything with beetroot in them such as treats? This tends to make their poop have a reddish tint.

No, they have never been fed beetroot before

Hi! I strongly suspect that the tint is due to the vitamin C supplement or the pepper. Blood usually shows up in the urine and doesn't colour poos red. Keep an eye on the poos, but take a deep breath and don't panic.

If Alfie is not picking up, then please have him vet checked; the hair loss etc. can be a secondary problem to what is causing him to not being well.

Please do not give any vitamin C supplement in the water. You can't control the intake and guinea pigs usually drink less because they don't like the taste. it also promotes the growth of algae in the water.
