just moved my 4 girls into their inside cage today (i keep them in a hutch in summer) since it’s getting colder here and noticed this

as you can see there are two different urine spots, one i’d expect and the other not so much... they all get fed the exact same veggies/amount so i doubt it’s because of food (because otherwise they’d both be a similar colour). i don’t know who it was so i’ve hatched a plan to find out later but i was wondering if i should be making a vet appointment or if this is just normal?

Is it dry, as I think piggy wee dries to a rusty colour.

If in doubt take them to a vet just to be sure ☺️

Depending on how 'fresh' the urine is, it does oxidize and turn a reddish colour when exposed to the air for a while.

If your piggies seem fine, are eating, and their weights are stable then you don't have anything to worry about.

It looks like oxidised urine to me. I have a piggy who passes blood in her urine regular as she has ongoing IC but blood in urine is usually a clear pee with a spot of blood in the middle or it dries a brown colour with a brown / red / pink rim around the outside. I can’t this see this here but if in doubt, please see a vet

I always work on the basis that if I'm concerned about anything I go to the vet.
They always say they would rather see a worried owner with a healthy piggy than an owner who has left it too late.

I think this is oxidised pee, the darker patch looks older as if it has dried, while the other patch looks newer and wet. If you are still worried pop along to the vets x

thank you everyone! i have a bit of tendency to over-worry but thought it was better get a second opinion than to risk it 😅 they have all had a bit of weight loss (77g, 65g, 69g, 57g) over the past 3 weeks but i’m putting that down to my dad not feeding them as much as i do (i probably overfeed them veggies a bit, sucker for their begging 😩) while i was away. haven’t noticed anything else out of the ordinary
