Hi Everyone
I hope someone can help. As you know I have been on holiday for a week and come back on Tues. I noticed today Reggie has abit of a bald patch of skin on his side and I'm worried something is wrong.
He is okay in himself and eating and drinking as normal but wondered if someone can take a look at some photos I took of him.
Before I went away he had a lovely coat and never had any signs of balding. It is mostly his left side of his body but notice on the last photo he does have a small bald patch there too :(

Thank you
Stacey x

Ooo that looks like quite a lot of balding. I'd treat him for both fungal and mange to be on the safe side.

With mange you can use Xeno 450 and for Fungal I'd wash him in Nizoral shampoo (anti-fungal)

wow how weird, i was gonna post something the exact same, my white rex piggy (chibi-female) has a bald patch exactly the same but on her back... I would also be curious to know why/what this is... is your piggy a rex? Although Chibi's isnt quite severe.. just a little patch mark.. but it does look very similar, she is eating, pooing, drinking and infact quite a stocky piggy for a sow..lol and there are not "wounds" from the balding, just alittle hair loss (like your picture)

Where can I buy it from hun on xmas eve? :(
Do you know what causes it too?
I'm so upset that I only seen it today, I never noticed it until now and feel terrible. x

Yes hun, my piggy is a Rex too.
I had a good look through all of his hair and also his ears and his skin is not sore looking or anything. Just the baldness was worrying me x

When I first brought Lentil he had a bald patch on his back and I didnt think it was fungal so I treated him for Mange over 3 weeks. I didnt actually use Xeno 450 I used something else that contained Ivermectin and his baldness never got worse and now it has cleared - so whether he did have mange or not who knows.

Xeno 450 you can either order online or get it from the vets and if its fungal you can buy Nizoral from places like Boots or order some products from gorgeousguineas.com such as neem oil (like i did)
I dont really know what else to except as its xmas eve and anything you order you wont get until atleast wednesday :/ It shouldnt effect his eating etc but look out for scratching.

Id try and get a anti-fungal shampoo and some ivermectin if you can. You cant treat both at the same time. Id do Xeno 450 first and then wait a couple of days and then give him a anti-fungal bath

take a look at this too

Thanks Han.
There is a local pet shop so I am going to go now and see if they can give me anything for now.
I dont want him suffering even though he does seem okay and his skin is not sore. x

Yeah see if they have anything with Ivermectin as it has to have that if its mange :) and if its fungal then you need a anti fungal shampoo

I could get some stuff with invermectin in... also on gorgeous guineas.. would Manuka lotion help also? as that is used for fungal problems.. I love the gorgeous guinea ranges :rose

Pets at home sell xeno450 in single doses £5/6 each thats what they said when i phoned them about my piggies

That is the stuff my Auntie gave me yesterday. He seems okay but of course I do worry about my pets when they are not well. I will see how he gets on over next few days then will take him vet if it's not improved. x

well i have bought some today and gave her some... the vets arent open till wednesday (unless a emergency)

I have also picked up some mite drops today just in case he has them.
My vet is also still closed and the emergency line for the vets charge £100 before they even see you. x

I used the mite drops last night and he struggled abit after I put it on so have this feeling he may of had them. He seems alot better today just hope the baldness clears up soon. x

I hope the baldness clears up soon too. Love and hugs to Reggie x

Thank you hun. I was abit worried about him last night, the drops smelt awful and hope it hasnt gassed him out. I kept checking on him in the night and he seemed to be fine plus was his usual happy self this morning :)

I'm happy to hear it. I can understand your worries, I felt that way when I saw the boys had lice :(

I'm sure he will be fine but just got to keep a look out :)
he's my baby boy so I'm bound to be abit worried. Hubby keeps telling me not to worry x

ok, I'm not just saying this... but that fugal treatment i bought for my piggy "Chibi" must be working... I went to phone the vets this morning (wednesday- to book her in) but... her skin (in just a couple of days) has improved so much.. I don't know how it happend, the treatment must work... but her skin looks so much better, no dryness or flaking.. just a little hair loss now..@) I'm so pleased. xx>>> I wish i took a pic of the before and after now though..mallethead

Glad your piggy is okay now. Reggie is alot better too and all his hair has grown back x

I hope someone can help me, I made this thread a while ago and Reggie is suffering again with patches of hair missing. I have no idea what it is that is causing it, he seems okay but has bald patches in certain places & the odd times Ive caught him scratching himself like crazy....

Hope someone can give me advice x
