Are there any care or prevention activities I need to do on a regular basis aside from the typical feeding and cleaning and nail cutting? In particular I am wondering about the prevention of mites, and internal parasites. I saw this video and want to make sure what if any of this I should be doing. Our piggies are kept inside in the US and we do not have any other animals. We do wash our hands before touching them, but I am sure my kids are not always perfect at that.

No there isn’t anything you need or should do aside from good housekeeping and routine weekly weight and health checks.

You should never use any parasite treatments as preventatives. The only time you use such treatments is if you have a diagnosed problem with parasites.
Using parasite treatments as regular prevention can be harmful and lead to resistance meaning the product can be less likely to work and potentially not work at all if you do come across a parasite issue. Sadly we are seeing some resistance issues and owners struggling to get on top of what should be a simple mite case but the medications aren’t always working.
