Sadly I have to rehome my two beloved boars, Caramel and Doughnut, they are separate due to fighting. They are not neutered. I am a first time owner so I had no idea they would take up so much of my time, space, and money. I love them so much and would do anything to keep them, but the only logical option is to rehome them. :(

I just have a question, what is the best way to go about rehoming my darlings? I don't want to give them to a rescue centre because rescues are busy enough already with all those piggies. I was thinking of using the forum's rehoming, but can I still do homechecks to ensure my piggies are going to a good home?

I really want my darlings to have the best life possible. :)

Arrr thats so sad for you but at least you are doing the right thing in rehoming them the right way and wanting to check to make sure they are going to the right home, good luck, sorry I'm not of much help but I'm sure some one on here will message soon to help you. x

Of course you would be able to do your own home checks if you rehomed privately. I would at least recommend asking to see a photo of the hutch or cage they would be living in.

I adopted two piggies from an ex forum member. She came to my place and stayed for almost three hours asking questions. I thought it was nice as it meant she cared but she neglected them as I later found. You have every right to do a home check.

I adopted my teddy girls from a forum member and I am in regular contact and always sending photos (and she had to put up with me sobbing on the phone when Toffee died).

So sorry you have come to the decision to give up your boys. They can be demanding on space, time and finances! You are a very loving mummy to be thinking of their welfare first before your own feelings... It's very hard to do. I was in floods of tears when I had to rehome one of my guys but thankfully my friend offered to have him so I still get to visit.

You should absolutely do a home check. it is a great way to make sure you are happy with where they are going. Feel free to use the rehoming section on here but it's also worth contacting a local rescue, you are right to say they have enough to do already but they may be able to offer advice and support as you rehome. Or they may be able to put your boys on their website and rehome while you 'foster' them until the right home turns up?

Thank you everyone for being so supportive and helpful. :)

@MerryPip contacting a rescue and putting the piggies up on their website does sound pretty good. I might consider that.

@Goth Mummy I don't feel comfortable giving away precisely where my city is, but it would be a pretty long drive if I was to drive to Nottingham via car, that's all I will say about it for now. :)

If you want to rehome them via here anyone interested can have a private pm to arrange. Can we see pigtures of your boys? :)

I will say everyone so far on here are very trustworthy and genuine. I had some issues surrounding a " stalker" outside of this website and I was helped tremendously by this forum.

Also we have reg meet ups so alot have met each other! I myself had huge privacy issues but since i have been here i have made genuine friends and have had no issues. Even overcome them and posted my pic and location. Never been any trouble!

It's def not a place like Facebook or plenty of fish deal ;)

@GloriousGuineaGirl That sounds pretty good actually. Here are my beautiful boys...

This is Dougnut. His back was recently shaved in the first picture, due to flystrike from fighting with his brother, but it's almost entirely grown back to it's normal length now.

And this is Caramel! :)

Seriously have a look at our re homing section though as alot of genuine loving people will be interested in rehoming your boys.

Alot get together here and even do piggy trains and share journeys to transport sick piggies around the country!

Many people have rehomed from each other here with many many sucess stories! :)

@Ruby Inferno I only asked where you lived as I know that will be a factor in people offering them homes. I rehomed two piggies from a forum member who lived in Wales last year :) it was a long drive but totally worth it :) People will travel a very long way for the right guinea pig though!

They are absolutely gorgeous, real beauties, its such a shame you cannot keep them.

Cassandra x

Yes, I drove 3 hours to collect two piggies once as I'd fallen in love with their picture. It took forever to get there but the drive home seemed like nothing, with two furry faces for company :)

What lovely boys! Caramel looks a lot like my boy Clyde. So sorry you have to re-home them. It must be breaking your heart.

Oh they're beautiful guys, you must be gutted having to give them up! I hope you find them loving homes nice and quickly - they'll certainly end up in a good place if rehomed via this forum or a recommended rescue!

You guys are so supportive and sympathetic, that's one of the many things I love about this forum. I will definitely miss them lots, I tear up whenever I am reminded of the fact I'm going to rehome them...

I will most likely use the forum rehoming. I have a cold (and have for the past couple of days, which I have mostly spent sleeping) so I won't post there yet, but hopefully will soon. :)

Hi, wonder whether anybody knows a friendly family in the North London area who may be interested in giving a home to two adorable male guinea pigs. Nibbles and Marbles are looking for a new home as my kids are older teenagers now and don't have enough time to play with them and give them the love and attention they deserve. They are 2 ½ years old, happy and healthy and adore children. They are used to being handled and have never bitten anyone.

I can also give you an indoor and an outdoor cage if required.

@Ruby Inferno You don't have to give us your exact location. We fully understand your concerns. A rough idea would help with the rehoming, i.e. North West, South East etc. ;)

There is Hazelcroft Rescue in St Albans who may have room for them.

I would start your own thread though as you may get more responses.

Bit of a trek South but ARC in twickenham/Richmond area or Bobtails in Epsom might be able to help if you really can't keep them any longer
