Hi everyone,
After finally seperating Toffee from Maisy and Star (through bullying)
I am going to the local RSPCA on Sunday so Toffee can pick a new boyfriend, They have two neutered boars,( photo's below) and we will let the guinea pigs decide the outcome of which will be the most compatible, I love the look of both of them, I will want them both, but ultimatly it's up to Toffee.
What do you all think? Aren't they gorgeous (scooby was found as a stray)
Do you think Patch is Black or Chocolate?

This is scooby!

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

Oh yummy I want Scooby he is devine :smitten:

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

Yes I think Scooby is the one I am hoping for, cause he kinda looks like the same type of guinea pig as toffee.

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

Scooby has the same beautiful colours as one of my boars (one of the reasons I got him). They are both handsome guinea pigs, I love the way that the ginger, agouti and white blend together. I think Patch is a harlequin (under marked) or a mix of agouti but can't be 100% unless I see him up close. It's nice that you are letting Toffee decide, hope all goes well. :smitten:

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

They're gorgeous! Scooby is a tri-colored broke golden Agouti short-haired American guinea pig (long and complicated, isn't it?!) and Patch looks black to me, and I believe that black means that they aren't able to be Agoutis. He looks like a mix of breeds. Hopefully she'll get along with Scooby since that's who you're leaning towards, but I'm sure both of them will be fabulous. They're definitely both gorgeous.

I wouldn't be able to decide.... i hope Toffee picks both cause they're very handsome :smitten: :smitten:

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

I've got to have the home check before I can bring one home, fingers crossed, had one before when I got Maisy, so I pray it will go well.
I hope Toffee will make the decision easy for me, I hate to choose, Infact I am VERY INDECISIVE.
I can't wait

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

They're both very handsome, i hope Toffee has fun in choosing & congrats to you Paula :)

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars

Can't wait till tomorrow, it's been a long few days waiting to go and meet toffees new boyfriend, Poor Toffee has been on her own since wednesday now, been giving her lots of attention. Not long now toffee.
She will still have to wait a bit longer after tomorrow as i have the home check to pass after that.

Re: Rehoming one of these neutered boars(UPDATE)

we took toffee to meet these two lovely boars today, and we were swaying towards scooby, we put toffees box in a neutral space and let scooby and her say hi through the bars, he went crazy, we let toffee out and although I'm sure she liked him, he was a little bit too much to handle, he was trying to mate with her, and was really determined, (he has been neutered recently) he was climbing all over her, she told him to get lost after a few minutes. It was exhausting to watch. The lady there told us he would probably calm down eventually. I guess because he is an adult that has only just been neutered it must be different than when a younger one is neutered. we had star neutered young but he never acted this crazy,I know neutering doesn't stop them trying to mate, but I haven't seen one like that before. She suggested we seperate the hutch down the middle until they got used to eachother, but I am sure this would be torture for the poor fellow, He was climbing on top of the pet carrier too. maybe his hormones need to calm down some more.
We then took a look at Patch who we were told was neutered too, but when we got him out he hadn't been, so their introductions were through bars, He is only approx 14 weeks old, and the lady said he would probably be a better match as he is younger and less hormonal, We have reserved him, and now have to wait until he is neutered and recovered from the op., then he can come home, but will still have to seperate him from toffee for a while. He is really sweet, the photo really doesn't do him justice.he has such silkie fur.
I can't wait, I hate waiting it's soooooo annoying.

I would of had Scooby I bet he acted like that because he had not been near another guinea in quite a while. Poor chap he got so excited at the thought of having a wife and a new home.

hey don't make me feel worse than i already do, been beating myself up about it all afternoon, I hate making decisions at the best of times. They are both gorgeous piggies.

Awww poor Scooby. ;D I am sure Patch and Toffee will have many happy years together. It's a shame they couldn't of meant properly. Pictures when you get him and sorry you have to wait, it's a pain isn't and a bit of a tease. >:( I wouldn't feel guilty either after all you are rescuing one and not just buying one (not that there is anything wrong with that). :) :smitten:

i know but still feel sorry for scooby,
do you think I should keep the name patch can't decide wether to change it or not. I like Charlie, Hurley, and sorta like peppa pig any ideas?

Rimmer trys to mate with my sows all the time. I let them sort it out between themselves as they would in the wild. Why not pair Toffee with another sow a quite one like she is would be another option. You could also ask to have Scooby for a trail of a month see if he settled down any.

I don't think it would be fair to have Scooby for a trail month and then take him away. And I like the names maisydaisystar, especially Charlie. O0

yes my other neutered boar trys to mate too, but not like scooby did, crazey boy, and yes he could of settled down,, but who knows, i didn't want to take him and then have to hand him back.Toffee is the one who was the bully to maisy, so didn't think another sow was ideal.
Yes thought after that we could of had a trial run,but really would of got attached, have made my decision now to have patch, and my two daughters liked him better too, so i have to tell myself i made the right choice. don't want to feel guilty anymore.

thanks cavy crazy, made me feel better, Yes i like charlie too, would you change it? i changed maisys name when i rehomed her she was called betty.Maisy sounded like daisy who she replaced when daisy died at 6 months old.

I think you should be very happy with your decision, Toffee sounds like she likes him, you sound like you like him and so do your children. I think it will be a match made in heaven, fingers crossed. I would/do change names just to put my mark on the animals, depending on their age and if they are use to their name but at his age why not. O0

Congrats to you & Toffee, i think Patch is lovely :smitten: & Scooby will find himself a lady who will put him in his place.
I'd change his name, new start, new name & you & your children can have fun deciding what to call him :)

:) I would change it from Patch too, have to say that he's a lovely looking boy. I put my neutered boys in with girls before I rehome them then they're not so amourous when they meet their new friend :smitten: (usually that is!)

Thanks for all your replies, Will probably change his name , Does everyone like the name Charlie, any other ideas??

Harley or another kind of sweet Sherbert, Fudge, Liquorice etc. Still like Charlie though. O0

i said i liked hurley earlier, can't have harley as that's my nephews name.
