Following on from my thread about Star, a question was raised about whether anyone had tried Reiki with a Piggy. I knew a friend was a practitioner of Reiki so asked if she had tried it on animals. Indeed she had tried it with her own cat and is willing to try with Guinea Pigs. Anyone interested please PM me. However, I would like to give my personal advise is that although I support holistic treatment (having tried acupuncture successfully) I would always look at holistic treatment as supporting ongoing vet treatment and is additional too.

I'm always interested in treatments that can work alongside conventional medicine. What exactly is reiki and what sort of conditions can it help?

Reiki works on running the hands over and above the body. I had it once but it did not work for me.

My friends practices reiki, they run their hands over your body and pick up on the energies. I have had it done and it worked for me but i suppose it depends how open you are. I can see it working with guinea pigs as they are more connected to the earth then we are so i can see it being something that would work. Be interested to hear feedback from this :)

I also do reiki and its a lovely simple way of using the universes energy to help with healing. I would always use it as a supplement to vet treatment though as its not an alternative to prescribed treatment. I haven't done it on twiglet yet but maybe I will try it later, hopefully will send him to sleep

Having Reikied several of my pigs I would suggest placing left hand on the body of the pig and passing right hand over slowly over the affected area from left to right no more than 5 times each way ,then shaking out both hands into the floor - not onto your own body or back on the pig- small animals such as guinea pigs only need a small amount of reiki as they will feel it a lot stronger and can become quite agitated if you go on for too long - or they will just doze off - different piggies different response - and it is not to be used in place of vet treatment - only along side it.
