Well the difficulty of animal ownership and fireworks is soon approaching, I am already starting leaving loud radios on for the guineas in the sheds and getting them used to loud noise again. Lots of blankets at the ready to start draping over cage fronts and late night veg feeds so they are busy eating when the worst of the noise will happen.

They seem to start earlier and earlier every year so preparing to battendown the htaches for halloween and keep the routing until well into the start of november, big displays are on in the next village on the 6th.

May seem a bit early but getting them into the winter routine always starts with My paranoia of big bangs lol. Plus I want it all running smoothly by the time the sponsored lift comes up as I will be pretty tired by the time I go to bed.

What do you do to keep your guineas safe and snuggly during firework night/weekrolleyes ?
 
It may sound early but you're right. You sound very sensible and caring towards your piggies. :) They are very lucky to have you as their mum! :(|) In winter on cold and loud nights, I bring my girls inside because they live out side in the shed. I usually keep the radio playing to fade out the bangs on bonfire night. I also make sure they have lots of hay and lots of places to hide. :)
 
This is my first firework night with piggies so I'm keen to hear everyones ideas.

One of my 2 dogs though was firework phobic so I have the DAP diffusers at the ready, the radio etc etc although last year for the first time he was ok (he's gone deaf) and we didnt need to sit in the car overnight on the moors......... will make sure I think of the piggies too though and keep an eye on this thread.....
 
We've had firework going off all this week, i think it's getting earlier every year! :( I totally agree with you with starting early, ,and getting the piggies ready it's better for them to get used to it early than be totally terrified! :) As this is my first time of owning piggies, I've already made them a home made rain and warmth hutch hugger from a shower curtain attacthed to space blanket and I'm putting a shed up this week, along with some fleecey curtains to keep out the cold and light. I'm also going to be putting lots of shoe boxs into the hutch on bonfire night, so they have plenty of places to hide as well as lots of hay, those honey treats to keep them occupied and hide veggies around the hutch. :)
 
All my small furries get loaded up in their hutches into the horsebox and relocated to one of mum's stables. She lives in the middle of nowhere so fireworks are not really that much of problem. Unlike ours, where I spend some of Nov 6th picking up spent firework cartridges from my garden grrrr. My next door but 1 neighbours always have a fireworks party and it really annoys me.:a19:

I think they should make fireworks only legal for organised displays. Nasty smelly loud things they are. OMG I sound like my mother.:))
 
Fireworks are a nuisance. They do seem to come earlier every year. Over the last few days I have often heard them and it's been quite late at night too.

I'm away over the 5th but my pigs are inside and we have double glacing so I imagine the pigs will be fine. I had Fred over the 5th last year and can't remember having any problems so fingers crossed all will be fine x

Pippa is afraid of thunder so I'm expecting the same reaction with fireworks :(

We were away last year, so the girls were at my Grandma's, all wrapped up in the conservatory :)

This year they will all be coming indoors for a week either side of Halloween/Bonfire Night (and then will go back out into the shed, we just don't have the space to keep them in all through Winter 8... ) We'll be in with them so will make sure they feel nice and safe :)

Our cat doesn't seem too bothered, thankfully, unless they are really loud grrrr
 
My piggies are currently living in the children's playroom. Fireworks are probably a lot quieter than a lot of the stuff they put up with!

When I was a kid, my mum's guinea had babies. On bonfire night, she put them in the outhouse so they weren't outside. The next morning all but one of them was dead 8... They were all healthy so we think it might have been the stress of the fireworks 8...
 
This is my first fireworks night having piggies and i'm away for the night! Will drape some fleeces over the cage and make sure they get given extra food and toys to distract them.
 
This will be the third year for many of mine and the second year for others. They never really bother with the fireworks, they just carry on as they would any other days. I do make sure they are all not panicking though and comfortable, usually there is nothing for me to worry about with my lot.
