I have just reported a pet shop to the RSPCA. I have a bearded dragon and I have had him since christmas, when I got him from the pet shop (reptile pet shop) they sold me 2 and said that they would be fine together. Since then I have had to rehome one of the bearded dragons to another reptile shop, as its a big no no to house 2 together.
The other day I noticed that Orlando wasnt his normal self and had stopped eating and looking very depressed. I rang the vets up and they said if I get worried over the easter break to bring him over and they could house him and get the vet to look at him. So I then rang the reptile shop that has been running for 15 years + to get some advice. Normal its the set up that you have that makes them behave like this. I have found out that the pet shop had sold me a UVB light for a tropical animal not a desert animal!! It is going to take weeks for my Orlando to get back to his normal self. I am so mad so I have now reported him to the RSPCA and on Tuesday I have to ring the Council up as as they deal with pet shop licences.
The reptile shop that has been running for ages has said that they have loads of people in that they have to sort out their set ups due to other pet shops not knowing what they are doing.

oh dear! I hope Orlando is okay :( Thats stupid! Pet-shops have no idea what theyre doing/saying!
:( hope it gets sorted for you!

I dont know if to ring the pet shop up and tell them what I think!

Is it a clean, well sorted shop? I would ring them but too... but thats just me ::)
Prob dont mention you called RSPCA coz theyll clean up and act innocent! lol

O0 for phoning Rspca and i hope that they sort it out

Hope orlando is okay :smitten: 666) stupid pet shop......

Thanks guys :-*
Will tell Orlando that the guinea pig forum are thinking of him!

The only trouble is as long as the RSPCA see that they are feeding and watering the reptiles, they might think that its ok. They have said that they will take a visit and ask questions, but the RSPCA dont know a great deal about reptiles. I know that this is a fact as if they do need any advice or get any rescues in then they get in touch with the reptile shop that has been running for years.

great to see you back again, and fingers crossed Orlando improves quickly poor little man, and well done on reporting a shop that could have killed your much loved pet idiots :tickedoff:

Well done for reporting them, hope something happens soon O0 :tickedoff:

Is Orlando going to be okay? Tell him we're thinking about him :-* :smitten:

OMG poor Orlando :( :-* :-*
Good on you, how dare they do that, once again irresponsible twerps running a shop that sells poor little babies :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
Good luck Orlando we'll keep our paws crossed for you :smitten:

Me and my mum went to our local pet shop and there was a girl buying a tortoise. My mum loves torts so she immediately went over to the girl and asked whether she had gone on some of the websites for tortoises. Turned out she was more concerned about how pretty the picture was behind the cage rather than how safe and happy the poor tortoise was. :(

I would just like to say i do not agree with reporting them to RSPCA because they supplied you the wrong bulb. you should have checked as well and now YOU could have ruined someone's business and/or some peoples animals might not be able to get what they need if they are the only reptile shop in your area.
I think you were wrong to do this and should have tried to sort something out directly not by potentially shutting the business down

This pet shop has not just given me bad advice but quite alot people! If they are doing the right thing regards to their animals then they have nothing to worry about. If you had read my post you would have seen that they gave me two bearded dragons which is a big no no.(they could have killed each other) If people cant been seen runing a pet shop and given the right advice then they should be warned by the RSPCA.
You also said that I should have checked as well about the bulb, well that might be right but what about all the other people that have brought rabbits and guinea pigs to be housed together. I am still clearing peoples crap up (that run back street pet shops) and I have now put my reascue on hold, but still get calls every day. If you could have seen the poor guinea pigs that I have had through my door reguarding pet shops and that is only the tip of it.

Mary
Well I cant see any one agreeing with you at all.

I agree with Mary on this one, her pets could of been killed because of a petshop, if that isnt worth reporting... then ?

Would also like to say that I was reported to the RSPCA in 1999 and I had no problems with them taking a look at my pets. One Sunday we where painting the living room and I wanted OH to drop me into town. As we were only going to be 20 mins we left our dog out side as it was a warm day and we had paint every where. It started to thunder when we was out so the dog started to bark. This was the reason why the RSPCA had come round. They where more then happy with my pets and could see that my rabbits had the full run off the garden.
They have also been to see my set up when I ran my rescue. They can come any time they want. I think the RSPCA should beable to go anywhere where there is animals, even if they havent been called.
