I don’t know if I’m just being hypersensitive because the girlies are new to me, but Nelli especially doesn’t seem to be gaining much weight. They are both 2.5 years old so I presume that their weight he would be somewhat stable, but I’m a bit worried about Nelli losing weight.

I have also noticed Nelli’s poops are VERY small, but she eats and drinks everything normally! I’m probably just being overly cautious because the girls were neglected and I have NO history about them, but thought I would just ask on here!

Hi!

Since the difference between a full or empty bladder is about 10g and the difference before or after a veg dinner can be 30-40g, we don't speak of weight gain or loss until 50g or more or if there is a steady gradual downwards over a longer period.

Your piggies are still well within the mostly stable 50g plus/minus range that you have with adult piggies (as yours are), I would not worry at all. It is normal that new piggies can bounce around a bit in a new home as they change diet and get used to their new surroundings. The more often you weigh, the bouncier the weight will get.

More about how weight naturally changes over the course of life, what to look out for re. weight loss/gain etc. in our very detailed and practical weight guide, which is looking at all aspects to do with weight and weighing: Weight - Monitoring and Management

Hello,

they seem at very healthy weights to me. You can keep an eye on Nelli but simply having an empty bladder can take off 15g so that’s totally normal. I’d worry at 100g drops. Bearing in mind they are probably a little stressed and settling in. I find it best to weigh in the morning before breakfast at the same time every week, go from there.

Congratz on your new ladies, I’m sure you’ll make them very happy!
