What have people paid for guinea pigs from rescue centres?
Do those of you that run rescues have minimum donations?

I ask for a minimum donation of £15 per guinea pig and have no problem getting it. I dont want to be seen as a cheap alternative to a pet shop ;) People are often prepared to donate more than that anyway.

I haven't ever used a rescue but I paid £15 for Spike from p@h. I would quite happily pay double that for one from a rescue. I don't see it as buying a guinea... more like covering the people's cost of caring for it and also a donation for future pigs or lifers.

Thats just my opinion anyway. I quite happily give to animal charities but I know many people who wouldn't.

My only experience is collecting the rescues piggies and then passing them along :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
I would've bought one of them but was unable too at the time :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

If it is the 'right pig' I would pay whatever they were asking for a donation.

I think i gave Mary £30 for Beau to cover his neutering..she wanted less, but i wanted to give her more and i didn't mind because he has made Flossie the happiest guinea pig in the world. So just to see her happy, if Beau was £50 i still would have paid it!

I just ask people for a voluntary donation to help the next needy guinea pig, usually £10 ish. The only thing that matters though is the home

................ if people are generous too that's a bonus.

I've rehomed over 100 cats and dogs myself and I could count on one hand the people who have been "very very generous" but as long as the home is perfect for the animal little else matters. I know that that particular animal will always have what it needs but often people don't understand the concept of rescue's financial burdens and needs, there is that feeling that they are doing enough just by offering a good home. Sadly it isn't always enough but very welcome none the less.

When a rehoming has gone particularly well and the people are genuinely overjoyed with their new arrival that sometimes has to be reward enough and it does encourage us to keep going.

i paid £5.00 for maisy from the blue cross rehoming centre, my other two were from p@h and were £19.00 each, i think they charge more down south,

:) Like Cheryl I ask for a minimum donation of £15. Only one person has questioned this, they were told that it is less than the local consultation fee payable at a vets and if they can't afford it perhaps they should reconsider if they are making the right choice. The home was good but I'm afraid money does come into it- especially in The Beautiful South where we have some of the highest vets bills in the country. I've been offered £100 for one pig, but they were way out of our area and rules is rules! :P
