Hello,

I've decided to get two more guinea pigs in the summer, i was wondering whether i should get them from a rescue or buy them? I have enough room (Pig shed and 110ft Garden) but debating whether rescue guinea pigs would be too much to handle?

I already have two beautiful boars at the moment, so obviously they'd have their own hutch etc..

Suggestions? :<>

Rescues are the best option - they will be healthy, properly sexed (not pregnant) and bonded with a buddy. Some of the neglect cases I've seen have turned out to be lovely piggies despite their ordeal.
Support is there from the rescue you use if there are any concerns.
Go rescue :)p

My rescue boy Wexford is one of my most out-going and laid back pigs, when i bought him home he was running around his cage within 30mins, unlike my pet shop pigs who took several weeks to get to that stage - pet shop pigs will be nervous and do take a lot of coaxing. As Guinea Pig Slave said - rescue pigs will come free from any nasty illnesses, will be properly sexed, and will have been properly bonded, so you can ensure they'll be lifelong friends.

This is a rescue friendly forum so I will be suprised if anyone says go to a pet shop!

I am a new piggy owner and got my 2 from a rescue. With this rescue they were happy to answer any question and I know that they will also be there for support should I need it. Pet shops would not offer much support.

The 2 boys I adopted were born at the rescue so did not have a traumatic start to life, they were not handled much because the rescue had a lot of piggies to look after and just didn't have the time. Behaviour rise they are fine, they are tame, but a bit jumpy but are improving every day.

Rescues will probably have a range of piggies who are easy going and others who are not so easy going. Just have to let them know your concerns and they should be able to show you some pigs which are not too much to handle.

There are so many beautiful piggies in rescue looking for their forever home. I have just adopted Francesca, number 17, all rescued and I have the most adorable, loving, trusting piggies ever :))

The closest Resues are the ones in Crawley, palacepiggierescue looks really good!

I volunteer for Crawley GPR which works with Palace Piggie. Both rescues are fabulous and have some gorgeous piggies waiting to be adopted.

Jenny at Crawley GPR has lots of piggies waiting for forever homes at the moment. Here are a few
