A rescue piggie is a piggie that was not wanted/looked after badly/abandoned and was handed in/taken by/found by a guinea pig rescue. If you look at 'cavy corner' or many of the wonderful rescue sites that will show you that there are many many guinea pigs who need a loving caring home. I would also like to point out that guinea pigs get given to rescues because people are no longer able to look after them and want them to go to a place where loving care is a given. Not all the piggies in rescues have had a bad time with humans.
I have bought guinea pigs from a pet store before now but I have moved to taking in 'rescue' piggies from a rescue site as there are so many needing good homes. I also gained a runt from a girl I used to teach who knew me.
So the process is as follows; Piggy is born. Piggy is taken in and kept by humans. Piggy has to leave humans and ends up in a rescue. Piggy is found a new loving home by the rescue.
The rescues are wonderful. Really truly angelic people who care deeply about guinea pigs. I take my hat off to them all!
Oh damn. i didnt make myself clear. after * typed allll that i feel rubbish....i meant how does one go about getting a rescue piggie? Is there a waiting list? Or is it come, see& buy or is it a lil more complex then this?

If someone is interested in getting a rescue pig, all they need to do is get in touch with their local rescue and see what piggies they have available.. Here is a link to the piggy bank approved rescues https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209994852075231951564.0004b8fd9391b4257d8eb&msa=0
Every rescue is slightly different in their rehoming process, often they will do a homecheck. Some rescues offer piggie dating so if someone has a single piggie they can help them find the perfect friend for their piggie.
like sport_billy said, all are different the one near me just wanted to be sure the baby i adopted wasn't going to live on his own. This just required a phone call, no dating or home checks. Other wise i picked up a baby the next day
