I adopted a piggy who has just turned 3 as a companion for my current piggy.
I expected her to be a bit nervous with a new environment but she is really timid! At first, she would run away as soon as we went near the cage. She has started coming out of the hidey a bit more but she won't come up to me for food or take food from my hand and she still bolts back to the hidey if for example we stand up from the dinner table.

She wheeks (wheeking for food type noise) when I pick her up and when she in my lap she constantly wriggles about trying to hide! Both piggies have been together almost 2 weeks and my other piggy is the dominant one and they still rumble strut. I wonder if my other girl being dominant maybe makes her more nervous? Or maybe she wasn't handled much by her previous owner :( any tips on how to help make her feel more at ease?

It will probably just take time for the new girl to settle. 2 weeks isn't a very long time at all. Good luck I think it will just take time and patience. Btw they are gorgeous piggies.

I am rather impatient! Haha. I just feel sorry for her. Daisy just flops out wherever she wants as she is so comfortable but Maple is spending most of her time in the hideys.

Should I take her out everyday anyway for lap time? Or just leave her to get used to her surroundings? And do you think I should be putting them out for floor time? I am worried if I put her out on the floor (another new environment) this will freak her out and may cause Daisy to show her dominance even more.

Mine were both 2 years old and were never handled when I got them, it just takes time for them to get used to you! I handled them everyday mixed with floor time and now they are lovely and cuddly :) Still dont like being picked up/put down tho!
