we got our first piggie as a rescue. they never fed it timothy hay and it had matted fur. i have trimmed off the mats, combed it with a fine comb and given it a bath. where the mats where the hair was greasy and thick with dirt. yuck! But under the mat on the back is a lump. I am assuming it is from the skin being pulled, no air circulation and being dirty. will this go away now that she has been taken care of? there is no puss. just a lump almost 1 inch across that is painful to the touch. I was thinking of draining it with a syringe.

i am so mad at the previous owners

Its so good to hear that you've taken it in and that the poor guinea won't have to live with its neglecters anymore. I know how high matinence long-haired guineas are and its wonderful to hear that its coat is looking how it should.
Unfortunately I'm no expert an I don't know what's going on with the lump. If possible, a trip to the vet might be advisable.

Do you mean that she's your first piggy and she's a rescue, or that you've started a rescue and she's your first resident?
Either way, I would take her to see a vet, too - that's quite a big lump. It sounds to me a bit like some sort of possible abscess (I'm no expert though), but I definitely don't think you should drain it yourself - not least because you don't know what it is and could potentially cause more distress / problems for her. Good luck with getting her back on track. :)
