I do a lot of volunteer work for the RSPCA and they shut down for 2 weeks and won't allow any to be re-homed. Just wandered if you rescue's did this? I am thinking of shuting down till new year but am worried i will end up turning loads of people away.

We don't as a rule rehome over the Christmas period but I have to say we have quite a few reserved that are to be collected end Dec/beginning Jan.

Personally I don't mind rehoming over the festive season obviously as long as the circumstances are right.

same here i have 10 guineas going to new homes in same sexed pairs on the 16 of dec and 23 dec these have been reserved since they were 1 week old and are going to great homes..
where 2day a lady rang wanting 2 baby guineas for her 6yr old for xmas has he wantted somethings to look after i said i didnt have anything suittable so i will now take reserves which will be held until new year **** first week of jan

who in their right mind would buy a child a living animal for xmas, I'm sure my girls would love to wake up to new pets at xmas but as a responsible adult i know the reality of having pets and how they dont have an off switch or run out of batteries they live for a long time and have lots of needs!!

although i rehome through the rspca the animals are kept at my home,in theory rehoming stops on the 19th December and re-commences on the 2nd January 2010 i doubt i could turn away any animal in need,we remember the 10 Degus we took in on the 23rd December last year.
