I came across his on ebay, Bobtails is my local guinea and rabbit rescue in Surrey and they are selling this cage and recommending it for two guineas. I have this exact cage, it is the ferplast 100, Fifi & Mimi were in it when I gave them a home and I thought it was far too small so moved them into a large C & C :{ I keep it as an emergency cage incase one of my boar pairs fall out.

What do you guys think? should they be recommending it for 2 guineas?

I've got my two boys in a Nero 3, which is about the same size, and I don't think it's anywhere near big enough. Luckily they just sleep in there and spend all day in their 1m square run on the lounge floor.

yeah,if they only sleep in there, then its ok, but who knows when a piggy sleeps?

I might ask them about it, I was more thinking along the lines of what size cage they recommend to prospective adopters.

I had a lovely lady contact me a few months ago as she had heard that I took in 2 unwanted sows and was hoping I could rehome one to her to live with her neutered boar. She had adopted him and his cagemate who had since passed away from Bobtails and the cage they were in was tiny. She told me that Bobtails had said it was ok.

I know it is a wonderful rescue and they do fantastic work but I just don't think this cage is suitable as permenant housing for 2 piggies :(

Yes, so that makes the cage for sale too small then as 4 foot is 121 cms :{

I'm my opinion is too small - the pigs will probably end up fighting as they will be on top of eachother all the time.

Yes I agree far too small. The minimum size we will rehome into for 2 guineas is 4ft (125cm) and that's with daily access to playen/run.

Although I do know that many rescues only recommend 3ft. I think that rabbit and guinea pig rescue in Rugby says 36 inches (96cm)

I feel its too small too and although my pigs are in a cage that size the have a bit extended on as a play pen so they are never actually in that all day. Mine only use that as place to sleep and eat and drink otherwise its the playpen area they use! Its great just letting have the freedom!

I think the point is that this is a rescue who is really advocating a cage that is too small as suitable for 2 guinea pigs which in turn means that people who adopt from them or buy this cage are in fact not really meeting the housing needs of 2 adult guineas.

I will see what they reply to my question!

Having spent the past 4 weeks sleeping on an airbed on the lounge floor I can honestly say that my 2 little sleep between 2am and 4am and that's it!

They have some lovely items in the shop... :)

Agree about the cage though. Thanks for emailing and asking!

exactly! they only catnap, hardly ever full on sleep, though saying that, ruby's fast asleep right now! they dont have any specific sleeping time

I had a nice message back from her saying that a large exercise area/pen would be required along with the cage to ensure the guineas were stimulated and had enough exercise. I suggested she put that on the listing as some people may not know that :)

good response from both sides, but it's definately not clear on the listing!

I had the same cage, used it as a hosp cage & when i adopted Howie to live with Lottie i had my OH build a 4ft x 2ft double hutch because i thought it was too small. However, when the rescue near me came out to homecheck they said the cage was fine for 2 piggies

I think it's ok for two baby piggies, but once two baby piggies have grown up they shouldn't be in a cage like that together. But i think one of these for each pig is fine.

I have one of these cages in the house, though I dont use it anymore. To honest I didn't like it. I like my piggies to be able to look out of the cage at all angles and I could never see them in it, so it's now in the middle room not being used.

I have this one from Zooplus which Nemo is in and I would say it's definitely only big enough for one piggy. He doesn't have the bit with the food bowl in because he struggles getting his fat body through the door and also I don't want him to jump up on the platform after the trouble he has had with his back legs this year.:)

The cage sold and they couldn't or didn't change the listing! I just hope when the buyer collects it, they explain about guineas needing the extra space. As I said, I have that cage and it came in useful last night for Lennie as his medical cage :( I still wouldn't have had him in it full time though as he was a big pig RIP :(

I've got some small indoor cages that I use as spares or sick cages on occasion but I wouldn't keep a pig in it for any length of time, like you say.
