A small village near Glasgow, in rainy Scotland!
I'm starting to help out Helen and Graham at Sokel, and I really just want to raise awareness, and I was wondering where other rescues advertise themselves, for maximum exposure? (With aims not just for people to hand guinea pigs in, but to actually come to you when they're looking for piggies!)

So far on my list I have my local paper, local newsagents and super markets, local vets, and a few internet sites. Anywhere else? Somewhere I might've overlooked?

Thanks!

I help Graham and Helen too when Helen comes down this way she sometimes gives me a couple of piggys. I advertise on Gum Tree. I just say Guinea Pig Rescue contact for further details. I've had lots of enquires but sadly I don't have any in at the mo.

Don't put pigs on this way just give a heads up to people who look at Gu, Tree that pigs are available in rescue. People new to guineas wouldn't be aware of rescue, I know I wasn't.

Good luck with it!

Pet shops that don't already sell animals will usually let you put an advert up - or leave some business cards if you have them.

Word of mouth is great - once people now you're there (although it works the other way too, and you'll get pigs left on your doorstep). Perhaps get some local press coverage to say what you're doing?

Web searches - if you have a website - most of the people that come to me come through Vikki's site via email, and they've searched online and found the site.

Good luck!

My local radio have given me a mention now and again. I also contacted the local primary and secondary school and got a mention in their newsletter. Its good to have a small business card size advert and just hand it to anyone you can. I got a good enquiry from the Library notice board and the dry cleaners!

I also went through the yellow pages and just sent a flyer to every vet within about 50 miles of me. Of all the enquiries I get that was probably the most productive. I think that because there are so few guinea pig rescues around people are happy to travel to meet you, if you are able to rehome in that distance it's worth trying. I home visit all homes up to about 75 mile radius.

You could also send flyers to all your local catteries, kennels and charity shops. All the local post offices usually have notice boards too. Parish magazines have been quite good for me too. They let me advertise for free and they did a great article on the rescue too.

It takes time - word of mouth really is the best way, you just need to be creative. :)
