I saw this 5 month old female up for sale and couldn't leave her. The ad said her kids are bored of her, she's skittish etc. I can't see a water bottle on the cage which she comes with so I'm collecting her tomorrow morning. I'm hopefully picking up another hutch on Sunday as I have my two boys in a three storey at the moment but am picking up a second hand cage too tomorrow incase hers isn't big enough to join them together somehow. My questions are;

I have hay, pellets, shavings etc here already but looking at her cage I'm going to buy water bottle, food bowls for her, anything else you can see she'll need?

Can I bring her home in this with a towel over the cage or should I take my cat carrier?

How long should I wait to get her a friend? I'm thinking a baby female might be better as she's 5 months? Could I introduce them on neutral ground then put both in the new hutch where neither would have been before?

I have a pen for my boys to have time on the floor in the house or on the grass. Can she use the same one or would I need another for her/her and a friend?

Any tips appreciated.

Firstly well done for rescuing her.
Poor little thing - no water bottle and no sign of hay either.

The one thing I would suggest is bringing her home and making sure she is kept separate from any other piggies for a 2 week quarantine period.
Once you are sure she isn't ill in any way then you can think about a companion for her.
Plus you can also check if she really is a girl!

Hope it all goes well.
You new girl is very lucky indeed.

She would need a seperate run than the boys or at least a different floor covering so the boys don't pick up her smell, it could cause fights.Always handle the boys first then her.Well done with getting her out of a bad situation.

Her cage is sorted, just need to pop her in when my 4 year old gets home. The shavings were solid in places with urine, her food which was muesli was all over the floor, no hay at all. Had a good clean and revamp, some new items but popped a sprinkle of her old bedding in there and her food bowl that was in the cage has been put in with veggies. Her bag of muesli was damp that came with her so had to throw it away.

Did you find a water bottle in the end? If not how was she getting water?
I keep thinking about rescuing a third to go with my 2 but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea :(
I keep seeing lots available though

Am even more pleased you have taken her in.I don't understand why people neglect animals.No-one forces you to take them on.

There was one in the cage laying down when the lady brought the cage out of the living room but I didn't see it on the cage when I walked in. She had at least 3 dogs in the garden from what I could hear that barked constantly so if she was in her cage on the floor and there were at least 3 dogs running around barking that loud I'm not surprised she was skittish.

She's been drinking this afternoon, eaten her veg and been eating hay. She sticks her head out of the house and looks when I call her which is sweet. The lady said she's 5 months but she's really small so I'm not sure. This is Holly:

I have some small guinea pigs.Heathcliffe is tiny for a boar, Daisy-dot is the smallest if mine except the baby and my babies are tiny.At four weeks old they are 150 and 200 grammes.
