Just so I can be sure I can give him the time he deserves. I intend to get him a wife once his neutering is def working!

I presume you mean Piggy routine.

Veggies in the morning. Water change too.
Quick clean (Poo patrol)
Veggies again in the evening about 7.
Quick clean
1 hour floortime.
Cuddles.

Thats my routine. With baths and nails done at the weekend. That us day to day Piggy life in my house.

I see your in N Ireland, do you know about Assissi? They take in GP's, might be worth contacted them for his friend or for an already bonded pair if you don't have pigs yet. They are just outside Bangor.

Our routine is.

Sweep out in the morning and veg time.

During the day they have little treats of grass and dandelions.

Evening - floortime and another sweep out, change food, water and top up hay and of course cuddles.

I do a whole cage clean once a week where i change fleece and inco pads and clean the hay loft, but i do spot clean the hay loft everyday.

Bath time when needed, i do mine at least once a month and nail/hair trim every 2 weeks. I also check my boys 'bits' just to make sure they dont have anything stuck. rolleyes I weigh once a week on the same day and at the same time. :) I also check their fur daily and check for any lump or bumps.

Hope this helps. :)

Ha! He's coming from Assisi! They have no girls and haven't for ages. The girl was saying that they're like hens teeth! Might have to resort to a breeder for a wifey as I don't want him to have to wait too long.

Hay in the morning about 9am.
if weather is ok they get out on the grass.
Veggies in the afternoon 4pm ish.
More grass time about 6pm.
Hay and GP Mix dried food 7 ish.

Poo patrol as required, those gp's wanting a fuss generally let me know plus rescue pigs get handled several times daily so they become or stay ok to handle.Rescue pigs also get grass time in the runs.

those that need a wash and brush get one as required.

Assisi, is fab.

Check Gumtree too, you may find a girly :).

I give my guinea-pigs their veggies and let them out in the run any time between 7.30am-9am depending on the day (weekends they go out at 9 because I sleep a bit later) they normally get a few dandelions during the day too, then I put them back in their hutches at about 9pm in the summer (about 5pm in the winter because of it getting dark earlier) and when I put them back in their hutches I sweep their vetbed, give them their nuggets and hay and change their water. I don't really handle my guinea-pigs much, I prefer just sitting with them, I can spend hours just watching them in the run :)) And they get a bath about every 3 months (they're all shorthair guinea-pigs) and they all have nail trims when needed (normally about once a month) and I cut Roy's hair at the back every now and then because it drags along the ground if it gets too long and also when its hot I sometimes trim all their hair a bit just to keep them cooler.

Assisi is awesome! I'm from Northern Ireland, too, it's so hard trying to find girly rescue pigs, I've been hunting forever! =[

Morning, about 6.30am - Sweep out the runs while the piggies squeak for food.
Then I feed them a huge pile of grass that I've picked, and maybe some lettuce or herbs I have growing. (They want the grass first, but I have to sweep up first!)
Then I refill their hay and water and food bowl, and put more hay into the sleeping area of the hutch.
I'd also clean out their houses now, but only every second to third day, depending on how dirty they were.
(About 15 minutes really, or half an hour if I'm cleaning the houses, but I'd be looking after the other animals too, so I'm outside for about an hour in the morning before college.)

After college at 4pm - Sit with them for a while, in their run, give them cuddles and talk to them, brush Meeko the long haired pig.
Then I give them another pile of grass and while they're eating that I usually sit outside the run with my dogs and cats. And I'm usually outside quite a bit looking after the dogs, cats and rabbits so I just talk to the guinea pigs a bit while I'm doing that.
(About half an hour with the piggies, but about an another hour outside, on college days or if it's raining, but on days off I spend hours outside if it's not raining. I should probably give them more time for cuddles, but it's hard when they're outdoors. I have no choice though because I live with my parents. And on nice days they get loads.)

Evening - Feed them some veggies and hang out outside for a little while and say goodnight :P
(About 10 minutes I guess, but about half an hour maybe to feed all the animals and put the rabbits in the shed, the dogs in their night time pen and bring the cats in to my bed!)

Oh and they've access to a run on concrete all day, so no worries about that. Somedays I put them on the grass, but not every day because I have 5 guinea pigs, and not a lot of grass, so the bunnies get to go on the grass because they eat less!

I know! I've called Carryduff USPCA and Coleraine and Bright Eyes in Enniskillen. Might have to resort to a breeder.

When are you getting him now, with any luck before you get him Assisi will get a girl!

Well I can't have him for about 5 weeks or maybe if I promise not to introduce the girl for 6 weeks they might let me have him. Don't know. I'll hold out as long as I can but have found a really nice man who doesn't have many piggies. He doesn't breed very often and any he has he keeps. He wouldn't commit to letting me have one of his piggies until he secretly contacted the person who gave me his number and made sure I was worthy of one of his piggies! I respect that. He called me today and said that I may have one of his Guinea Pigs as I got a good reference as a bunny mummy! :)p

He says the one he found for me that I could have is long haired, mostly black with a tan strip across her body and a white beard. He says I'll like her as she is a very cuddly piggy! As he is not waiting to sell her to anyone he will keep her until I am ready or not as the case may be! Oh boy - very complicated stuff this Piggy hunting! mallethead

Me neither! The wee rescue is lovely too and a very cuddly, fat little fellow. He has short hair and has, like, dutch rabbit markings but he is tan and white. Big BIG lips! Hope his neutering goes well. I've kinda lost my heart to him already.

Assisi vet is very good at neutering, I'm sure he'll be fine and Ceris is lovely!

I hope that all goes well! The important thing is to establish a routine that fits in with your life and then stick to it.

My own routine is a bit different, as I work from home and am letting my piggies roam the living room while I'm around, so my piggies are getting little bits of food (especially grass) more often during the day. They also get a good night tidbit in order to make sure that everypig comes back home for the night! The overall amount of food however, stays the same.

Oh she is. She talks to the piggies in a South American accent! Kinda like Speedy Gonzalis! :)p

How do you know Ceris? And Assisi?

I used to live in Belfast, sadly I had to give a male pig to them which was neutered and rehomed to live with a girly.

I kept in contact with her after I gave him up, to make sure he got a nice home which I'm informed he did :).

Thats my conection with Assisi and donating piggy stuff to them :).

Oh there you go! Well I'll try to remember to take photos when I go to meet girly!

Are you getting the girly on thursday?

I don't know!? Trying to do whats best. If she is living with some other piggies, maybe I should leave her there until the rescue comes home so she isn't alone. If she already lives alone (I don't know how, ahem, breeders, ahem, keep piggies) then she could come with me as it wouldn't be any different for her and she'll probably have more space with me I'd imagine so would be better off. Then there's the food thing - she gets Allen and Page and the rescue gets Burges. Do you have to ween piggies off something gradually and on to something else like rabbits or do they have a stronger constitution? Soooo much to know. I'm not taking anyone until I'm sure I know what I'm doing! mallethead

Piggies have very delicate stomachs so yes you do need to ween them off gradually. The same with introducing new veggies do it gradually or you'll get smelly poos and upset tummys! :red

Right, thanks for that! So somebody will have to live on their own to get on to the same food as the other one - it will be little Miss Piggy then. I'll try and bring her home on Thursday or at the weekend would be better then I'll have a couple of days to settle her in. I'll start gradually getting her onto Burges over about 2 weeks so both piggies can eat the same thing when Mr Rescue arrives. I'll find out from the breeder what veg she is on and just not add anything else.

Does this sound like a plan?

Yeah that sounds good, but once she's settled onto the new food then you can add small bits of different veggies.

Mine have always had a variety of dry food and veggies and I think that's quite good for them because now they can try something new and never get upset tummies. Or they're just lucky pigs, not to have sensitive tummies.

Hi,

Probably not relevant now since you are buying a female on Thursday;
But incase any other NI members are looking for a female rescue, I'm aware that Acorn rescue in Lisburn has a female, though it may be awhile before she is fit to go.

Oh darn! I didn't know there was a rescue in Lisburn. They're not in the yellow pages! Feel like I've committed myself now but I might just give them a ring tomorrow.....
