So the other day I saw a poor little guinea pig advertised on Gumtree as free with cage to collector. I don't really have space for any more guinea pigs so I will have to rehome the poor little dude but I just felt so so bad for him. I am not sure what state he will be in (owner said he is healthy) but we will wait and see.
I will obviously assess him and check him over and feed him up a bit and definitely clean him out. He is supposedly 2 years old but he seems small to me. I will post updates on Sunday after I have collected him.

Anyone want to come on a boar date with me? I am single and available.

Is he neutered? He'll have to be if you intend on rehoming him, unless he pairs up with another boar. ;)

Well done @Hank288 .......I did exactly the same a few weeks ago; rescued a lovely chap who was being offered on Gumtree - he was living in an outside cage with a rabbit. Intended to foster and then rehome via a rescue, but I have decided to keep him now (he is lovely and is starting to grow in confidence and put on weight, he was so nervous and sad at first). I later ended up taking on his bunny friend too (now housed separately). Shame we are not closer as I am hoping to find a companion for mine via a rescue in the New Year.

If he is neutered, he'll have some very big boots/paws to step into and a ready made family. MrsHogg is already picking names - Kenny (after Dougherty the Vera/Stella actor - she's besotted with him!) or Reggie ( to replace the rehomed Reggie bun) that way Ronnie and Reggie are back! :))

Where abouts in the south west are you? I am travelling down to Burnham-on-sea on the 23rd of December (Junction 22 of M5) and could bring him with me if you were nearby and were interested in him. I will be staying down until the 29th so we may be able to sort out meeting up? Let me know where you are and we might be able to sort something out.

I would imagine that he is not neutered and I am not sure if he has always been a single bachelor. I will find out more tomorrow morning when I collect him. I just couldn't leave him where he was as he looks sad and the cage is so dirty.
I will certainly find out if he is neutered for you Boss :)

@Hank288 - we are on the South Coast Devon/ Dorset border so a bit of a trek from Burnham-on-sea.........but if you don't organise something with @BossHogg let me know and we may be able to arrange something :)

Poor little chap. Thank goodness he has found you and I hope all goes well and he has a happy ending. X

Well the little dude is home and is actually quite fat so he has been fed very well. Well I mean he was on rabbit muesli and straw when I picked him up, it was very soft straw and he was actually eating it bless him.
He is called Cookie and is a golden Abyssinian with a bit of ginger on him. He smells a bit and seems to have a touch of dry flaky skin. He is having a bath tomorrow with some swarfega to clean his dirty grease gland. Then he is having a mite treatment.

The cage looked fairly clean on first inspection but after being in the car for only 2 minutes with it, the smell was unbearable. I drove home with the window down. I have just cleaned the cage and not see anything so bad ever. It had several centimetres of crud stuck to the bottom and I had to scrape it out with a trowel. I have also now spent 3 hours scrubbing it and it is pretty much clean now after I thought it might have to go in the bin.

He used to have a friend about a year ago but when he died they brought the single male inside and he has been alone ever since. He was very chatty and friendly when I was holding him so at least he is tame.
He is currently in a cage stuffing his little face full of hay so he is very happy.

@BossHogg He is unfortunately not already neutered but is a lovely boy.
I will get some photos while I bath him tomorrow.

Thanks for letting me know, it looks like you saved him from a fate worse than death - well done. :tu:

So glad he is now clean and safe. Hope you find a lovely home for him.
