Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me with some concerns I have about my piggies. They both cough and sneeze often. They can be lazy and have a lack of appetite sometimes. When they’re laying down, sometimes I can hear what sounds like labored breathing maybe, as if they don’t feel well. Also, when I hold them I can hear a slight wheezing sound in their breathing. I give them veggies often for their vitamin c. I have switched to different brands of hay because they often don’t eat it and just pull it out and leave it on the ground. They do eat their food pellets and they do drink plenty of water. I have done some research but I can’t seem to find an answer. Does this sound like it could just be allergies? We also have one dog. And I have moved their cage away from the cool drafts in my room as well. Some days aren’t as bad as others, they popcorn and get excited when they hear the hay and food bags opening. They run around and popcorn when I put them out on the floor for floor time. Also, I clean their cage with vinegar and warm water as often as needed.
Any advice?
Thank you!

I’d say take them to the vet if you think they sound wheezy. You can perhaps email and phone to describe their symptoms. Are there any other symptoms?

pellets should be kept to a tablespoon a day per piggy. Do you weigh them weekly? If so, how has their weight been of recent?

It does sound as if a vet consult is needed.
If nothing else it will put your mind at rest.

At the moment the best way is to phone the vet and discuss the concern. They will then arrange a visit if needed.
