Hi again,
I've got another 2 guinea pigs, who have both been diagnosed with respiratory infections.
They are going to be on meloxaid and antibiotics, but the vet has recommended we buy a nebuliser as well
Just wondering if anyone has had experience using one for respiratory infections?
Would it be worth buying one?
Thanks 😊

Sorry this seems to have been missed.

I had a rescued boar who was prone to respiratory infections, I was advised to try nebulusing him. I think it is supposed to help by loosening mucus in the airways to ease breathing, the effect isn't always obvious to us though. On one occasion with a stubborn URI I was given some Baytri to administer via the nebuliser to see if that was more effective than the oral meds he had already tried.

It's often suggested to get some of the benefits of nebulising by putting the piggy in a steamy shower room or placing a bowl of hot steaming water next to them. You could maybe try and see if that helps and then buy a nebuliser if it does.

I worry that ingesting F10 might damage intestinal flora. You can try using the nebuliser and just monitor the stools, using a good probiotic like Biolapis Fibre Plex or their other dandelion flavoured probiotic.

Using a nebuliser saved my Fern when she had awful pneumonia, it took a couple of days for the antibiotics to kick in, but the f10sc helped kill the bacteria in her lungs and loosen the mucous enough so she could breath. She had been so blocked up she was trying to breathe through her mouth, the vets she saw said she would likely pass away, but she did well. There's some pretty cheap ones on amazon, £20 or so. Well worth having "just in case".

Yes, they are quite easy to use and my piggy didn't mind it, so it's well worth having it handy 👍
