I know I only post on here with sad news, but it's become important to me that I do this for every piggie we lose.

Today, whilst we were at work, we lost little Leo, aged 3 years and 7 months old.

We got him in November 2007, aged just 4 weeks, from rescue as a cage mate for Pepe who was desperate for company, and for three and a half years he and Pepe have been inseperable. He's never given us a spot of bother and has always known his place as the happy go lucky partner to Pepe's scared and timid demenour. He looked after Pepe, and Pepe duly looked after him. Even when they ocassionally fell out and we had to temporarily seperate them, they'd always be back to being pals after a few hours, and they always shared their food and water without any fights or squabbles.

He'd been ill for almost two months. It started, as we suspected, as a tooth problem but there must have been an underlying problem as no matter how many times the vet checked and filed his teeth he just couldn't eat anything. We've been syringing him for almost the whole of those two months but not once, not even this morning, did he ever lose his appetite, always desperate for "just one more syringe worth" and always still attmepting to eat both his wet and dry foods. It was only on Monday night that he really went downhill, and by yesterday evening we knew, from the dramatic weight loss, that it was time for him to go. I'd booked him with our vet's to have him put to sleep but he must have known that his time was up. I told him this morning that it would be better for him if he went at home, surrounded by familiar sights and smells and with Pepe close by, and he duly obliged as I found him this afternoon at 5 PM under his stick house.

He will be sorely missed by myself, Julie and especially Pepe who already looks lost without him :(

Rest In Peace little man, daddy loves you very much, you will always be a very special piggie and I'm sure Blaze, Scampy, Oscar, Boomer and Bear have already made you welcome at the Bridge.

Oops, I don't know why this was posted twice, would a moderator please remove one.

I am so very sorry Marty & Julie. :(
My thoughts are with you both & I hope Pepe's ok.
Sleep in peace Leo xx

I am so very sorry to hear about Leo. Its always so sad losing a piggie and Leo put up a brave fight to stay with you. Run free at the bridge little Leo..

So sorry for your loss. It sounds as if Leo had a fantastic life with you and that you did everything possible to help him during his illness. It's sometimes so unfair when piggies don't respond to treatment in the way that we would hope. Glad his passing was peaceful and at home xx

Thanks for the replies Niki, Farqhuar and Three.

As Martin said, Leo and Pepe were inseparable, despite the odd spat, and I would just like to add that although the rest of our single boys club were moved outside the other week for the summer months, Leo and Pepe remained indoors so we could monitor Leo. Pepe will be remaining indoors in the front room until we have a solution so he will at least have a lot of human company and see the other pigs at run-times.

Leo, you will be remembered by me best for your never ending surprise and joy at the fresh vetfleece on cleanout days and when the fresh hay was daily added, popcorning madly and chasing Pepe with glee when these, your favourite things, occured.

You hung in there as a little fighter as long as you could and your spirit never once left in all the time we were trying to get you better until these last 2 days when we realised now was your time.

Rest in peace my gorgeous, funny, sweet, placid, joyful, fun and playful little sweetheart. You will be missed by your humans and your eternal soulfriend Pepe more than you can possibly imagine.

Julie x

Just tried to edit my message to add to Niki that our Pepe Pig will be getting so many extra cuddles, but my stupid internet kept hanging so much everything timed out.
