Teenage Guinea Pig
on the 30th of march I lost my frankie pig due to bloat. He was blocked up and had to be rushed to emergency vets where he was supposed to stay over night to try and get his guts working again. He had previously suffered from diahreah and seemed to have recovered until I found him with watery stuff coming from his nose and mouth. The vet said that is water coming back up because he has such a blockage. So while he was in the vets they said he had perked up abit but still hadn't had a poo. At around 8pm I got a call to say he had had a seizure and the vet didn't know if it would have affected him and if it would leave him with neurological problems so I had to make the difficult decision to have him put to sleep. It was absolutely heartbreaking because he has been through so much in his life and didn't have a very good start in life.
I got him from the pet shop that was closing down and he was reduced to £5 he was the last one in the shop so I bought him. I was told by the pet shop that because he is a male he must live alone forever or one will get killed. when I got him home I noticed he was covered in cuts and bruises and one of his ears was ripped in half and he was terrified. After a few weeks he was still terrified and as soon as we had him out on the floor, he would just jump back in his cage he hated everything.
So one day me and my boyfriend were laying in bed and I said I wanted to get him a friend so my boyfriend went on gumtree and found a free ad guinea pig and he was a boy. So off we went to collect fudge. I hadn't even seen a picture of fudge as there wasn't one on the ad so I didn't know what to expect. He was absolutely huge compared to frankie! But as soon as we introduced them frankie changed instantly! Was trying all the new veg that fudge was eating and started coming out of his shell. It was so lovely getting to know them.
He was a very sensitive guinea pig who had a few minor illnesses, he had an allergic reaction to a spot on treatment xenex ultra, which prompted me to get amazon to remove it from sale. And when fudge sadly passed away, he took it very badly and was soon joined by Freddie who he bonded with at the rescue and who looked almost identical to him!
He was a very loving caring guinea pig and when either fudge or Freddie tried to dominate him, he wasn't at all bothered and I think he liked being the submissive pig. He never had a fight with either fudge or Freddie or tried to be the dominant pig. He was wonderful and I am so happy to have had him in my life, even though it broke my heart having to have him put to sleep, I know it was for the right reason and I couldn't have let him suffer. He is buried right next to fudge in our garden
Rest in peace my little frankie pig, we all miss you so much and think about you everyday. Goodnight my little baby, popcorn free with fudgie
